Default LS1 240sx Update

I've been driving the car as my daily driver for about a month now. The car has been running in Limp mode ever since I started the car. The guy whoever programmed it did a hack job, and turned on Boost management after 2000RPM? W. T. F. So I had Matt @ Monkey Wrench Racing, a local tuner shop with LS1 Edit (go figure) go back through the programming and fix the hacks and retuned the out of wack Fuel tables. Today it hit the Dynojet, and the Outcome was:

361WHP @5,600 and 350 ft. lbs Torque @ 4,600 !!!! It made 300 torque @ 2,000RPM

Mods: LS1

All custom to fit, Dual 3" Exhaust w/ Flowmaster Mufflers, Modified JBA Corvette C5 headers, 3.5" Intake, and a great tune. Thats all for now. I should be good for a nice 11 sec run with a stock engine.

Hopefully it gets tubbed for a ford 9" rear end this winter and a Procharger the following winter. I'll try to get more pics this weekend when i am out eating F bodies, Vettes, and the local fast rice up here in MI.

couple engine shots.

Interior, 8 pt cage with Simpson Harnesses.

Sleeeepuurrr.

exhaust Setup. Headers are wrapped.

Yes its very sleeper right now. I welded the diff oiver the weekend, next will be 15x8 Prostars with 275/50R15 drag radials. And a slight lower job since I am riding 4x4.

Thanks for any comments! And your welcome to anyone who plans to steal any ideas. All the work has been done by me. Custom exhaust, mounts, headers... I didnt have anyone hand me my mounts or headers. All fabbed by me. And like my dad says "Do it right the first time, or don't do it at all".

very nice !

My friend has a 1997 240sx, and he'd like an Ls1 in there.
However, he doesn't trust shops doing a good, reliable job on such hybrid...

Great numbers! Hope you can get lots of rear tires for it!!

Be careful with that exhaust. It looks like it dumps out under the car which will make it likely you'll be gassing yourself. Any holes in the underbody will let in the carbon monoxide and there's a chance of it curling up and coming in an open window. I believe one CO symptom is headaches.

Great looking engine compartment!!

Yeah the gasses are pretty bad. I have to seal up the back better. Later on there should be a narrowed Ford 9" nicely tucked under.

the car weights 2600 from the factory, so with a lighter engine, no interior, and a cage I should be bac to about the same.

Thanks guys!

very interesting swap. been searching on the internet for a while now and you are the only one to pull it off. I'm in the military stationed in JAPAN and own a 1996 Kouki type X 180sx with a JDM silvia front (Sil80) In the States i own a 99 trans am. I like the light weight of the 180 and i like the torque of my trans am (getting 30mpg hwy on the ta is pretty nice too) Sooooo i'm thinking hybrid of building A LS1 Sil80 when i get home. i am very serious about this and would like to ask you a few questions off this thread (to preserve your methods). Im srasmetak on yahoo if you can help.

also, i do all my own work as well..... i shelled out my 1996 s-10 and dropped a chevy smallblock in it. all custom autometer gagues. B&M shifter 4bbl holley. fun lil toy. I'm the only person to ever touch that truck till i sold it. The TA......only person to touch it as well. I have a strong hotrod/drag race history and would not let any touch this project either. just a little history on my toys!

Wow, Nice job! I will look out for you around here. Are you a member of any of the local clubs? Plan to take it to Milan anytime soon? Maybe I can catch you somewhere around here.

And Wong, no a 275 is not recommended. A 255 tire is the widest you should go on a 8"wheel. 275 will fit, but is too wide so it will baloon in the center and you will not be using your tire contact patch like you would want to.

I thought 255's needed 9" at least?

Awsome setup though Slo_ if it makes you feel any better about using 255's someone on Hybridz is running mid 9's with a 2jz swap 240z with that sized tire.

awesome to hear its up and running! congrats on the GREAT dyno numbers, theyre super good for a stock LS1 and it has to be a real handful on your current tires out back, YIKES! the header pic is wonderful, so nice of you to share! props for that and the car looks great man, nice install, clean wiring and the engine bay looks so simple, people will be shocked! that exhaust is crazy exiting under the car... lol!

did you have any problems running p/s or is it too early to tell? (the rx7's are a pita because the mazda rack is over pressurized by the ls1 pump)

I just stuck another stock sohc into my S13 240sx on Sunday, I dont have enough $$$$ to do an LS1 to the S13... yet... and I still have my LS1FC

Damn thats badass...however I cant see it being much of a sleeper running an ls1 with headers/no cats/true duals lol. Lord knows Id know something was up if I heard a 240 sounding like that. Top notch work though and looks sweet!

Thanks for the great comments everyone! The car is an absolute dream to drive, its well worth its gas money even thought with the tune it gets great gas milage. Too be totally honest, I try to get races on Woodward and 95% of the people won't even race. Not even the muscle. One encounter where I made a 2nd gen T/A look like a Uego and he says "Thad dun sound like no fo' Cylinder!" My friend says its a 6 and he said "hell no it aint!". I love terrorising the streets.

275's will work on a 15x8, they bow out but gave me awesome traction on the streets when I was running the BFG drag radial. I liked the bow look anyway, makes it look more beefy. here is a pic of my old car with 15x8 5.5 BS on a 240.

Duke, believe it or not those are ebay racing seats. They cost me 260 shipped. They have universal sliders and I had to make customs brackets that welded to the floor.

Plans for the car later on will be a mini tub with a Ford 9" so I can hook it all (with help from my friend Crazee240sx ) and heads and cam afterwards. I want to run a 10, if I can do that I will be content for the rest of my life. Thanks again everyone and thanks to everyone that answered my questions on here! LS1Tech Rocks!!!!

looks great, what oil pan did you use? Have you got a site with some more picture of the build up? Im considering a 240sx (or 200sx theyre called in europe) or an RX7 for my next conversion. The LS1 seems to fit slightly better in the RX7 FC than the 240sx, or do you think im wrong?
