Why? What would it bring to the table? It would absolutely MURDER the value of the car. Why not just buy something semi-exotic like a Mosler that already has one.

I've wanted to do that to a flooded (insurance total) Ferrari 355 once. I would've had to make an adapter so the bellhousing would bolt to the Ferrari trans-axle. But with the gear ratios you'd have to seriously build the LS1 so it could reliably spin to 8,500rpm.

The Ferrari is only a 3.5 liter v-8 so it doesn't have near the weight spinning around inside the block like an LS1, also the Ferrari doesn't have near the torque.

The whole project would've been an engineering miracle if it had actually worked. I had it well thought out, but in the end it would've been an extreme task and I dropped the whole idea.

I want to build a GTM in the next year. May start with the 65 cobra kit to make some money for the gtm first and gain some build experience. I have seen the gtm kit in person and looks pretty good. Making all the body parts fit clean looks like the biggest hurdle.

Well i think it would make sense if you found an exotic w/ a bad motor. Throw a good revving LSx motor w/ a very nice custom exhaust and you would have a great car that the motor would both be cheaper/easier to workbut also last longer!

I'll bet a dollar to an empty donut hole that a well built LSx engine would shred a Ferrari transaxle in no time, and probably quite spectacularly.
Yes, such a swap would probably devalue the Ferarri, but I'd bet that with a strong enough transaxle and the right gear ratios it would be a damn sight more fun to drive. Europeans don't seem to have discovered TORQUE yet.

You could always build an Ultima. No body work needed. But the kit is more pricey to start. I have aspirations to build me an Ultima GTR with an LSx someday. Maybe one of these days these investments will hit big...........

There used to be quite a few Ferrari 308s with small block chevys. It all depends on the total price.

I would love to build one of those, but don't have the funds for something that crazy.

there are several LS1 miatas out there

a couple of guys put LS1s into 1980s 911 wide bodies. there was a guy talking about putting an LS1 into a Viper.

if you were to do that, you should de stroke a motor, so it revs really high and dosent produce as much toruqe, thus saving those delicate european transaxles and transmissions

We have a good looking Ferrari 308 with the European front end, that I have been contemplating installing an LS1 into. This is an 1982 model, and the original V8 engine is rated at 205 hp, with a 16 sec 1/4 mile time! This car looks great, you just wouldn't want to race a new Honda... Bob
