what do you have manuel or auto? If it is manuel there is a pug in tranny for back up light switch.

You can order the short pigtail to plug into the tranny at RockAuto.com. They are cheap.

ah, ok. where exactly is it located? I downloaded the wiring diagram and didnt see it. Would I probe for +12v there, and run it to a relay for the lights?

Here is a link for the backup light plug. It plugs into the only place possible on the passenger side of the tranny.

Also it doesn't matter which side is power and which is ground. Its just a switch that shuts when the trans is in reverse. I used the factory wires from my car and connected them to the switch.

If you are not using the factory wiring, then just run 12V to the reverse lights then run the ground from the lights to the trans switch then ground the other side of the switch.

F-Body or truck trans? Trucks have the backup light switch right on the trans, on f-bodies it is in the dash so you would have to run one on your shifter or change the shifter shaft on the trans and then put a truck switch on the trans.

Heh, I squint hard.

That said for an automatic a momentary lever switch mounted in the shifter works well.

Summit and a lot of other places sell a B&M universal kit to mount to the shifter for your backup lights.

For B&M shifters you can use this reverse / neutral safety switch, if you need it for both you will need two switches.

Default b&m switch

All that is is a simple limit switch that you can rob off of an old dryer (it stops the dryer when the door opens) or other electric apliance or purchase at any decent electrical supply store. There are different types normally open and normally closed you can make a reverse light circut work with either. but it would be simple to just put a normally closed one in the groud side of the circut

Wouldn't you need a normally open, so when it closed it would complete the circuit?
