Default Z06 Headers

I've got an '01 LS1 for my swap, and was wondering if the Z06 cast headers offer much improvement. Compared to the stock LS1's, they look much smoother with much more gradual bends much like a cast version of a short tube header. They are plentiful and not expensive, as compared to long tube headers. Fit up to my chassis is no problem in my case.

They are a nice manifold and are probably the next best thing to shorty headers. I used the Z06 manifolds on my vette.

Shorty headers won't gain much over them and you can buy low mile take off manifolds for about $50-60 a pair.

Andy, I also used them in my swap, carcraft did an article regarding them they did not see any gains in hp (maybe 3) with headers over these stock manifolds.
I would use them.

Any thoughts whether medium length headers would have much of an improvement over the LS6/Z06 headers mounted on an LS6?

I haven't tried it yet but I'm not too sure that the medium lengths will fit in the Mercedes when the LS6 goes in there, but the cast headers look like they would be easy. For a reasonable HP gain, I would try very hard to get the medium length headers in there.

Whatcha think??

i used them with excellent results.
i now have long tube headers and picked up 2mph 1/8 mile, so headers DO make more top end, but i dont think i gained a single bit of torque. car "feels" the same.
i have a set for sale as well.

thanks - that's the info I needed. If I can get the medium length headers to fit, then fine, but if they don't they the Z06 headers will give me the torque I'm looking for.

headers look better, but the mid length wont make any power over the manifolds. only problem with the manifolds is the fitment. i polished my heatshields out on mine and they looked very nice.
good luck.

I'm hoping the tubular headers fit, partially for power, partially for looks. I'm installing a rack & pinion setup in the Benz so the recirculating ball gearbox is off the frame rail EXACTLY where headers want to go through. Mercedes with headers are almost non-existant, mainly because of the cost to have custom headers that have to go around that steering gearbox. This would look SO much better with headers in there!!

If I have to use the LS6 iron manifolds, maybe I could clean them up and have them jet-hot coated. The car is silver with a blue interior and I'm doing the engine in silver and blue. Wonder if I can get jet-hot hi-temp coating in blue? That would look different.

not sure about jet hot, but the local powdercoater here has all kinda high temp colors in his coatings.
he has one similar to jet hot, them some other colors as well.
check in your area, or i can get you in contact with him if you like.
never thought about coating the manfiolds. it would make them look 200X better.
rusty iron doesnt bling to well. hehe.
good luck.
