LS6 vette suspension/drivetrain swap into 95 LT1 camaro?
#1
ls6 swap?
i have a '95 lt1 z28 and a drivetrain from an ls6 corvette. are the engine mounts the same on the lt1 and ls1 engine? is there enough space to put all of that vette engine in there? how much would i have to modify to use more of the corvette drivetrain? i've had a bunch of clutch problems and the newer t56 feels so much better that i'd like to make an entire driveline conversion.

Best place to wonder and ask this will be the conversion/hybrid forum we have here.
I belive some work and a custom K member is needed.
https://ls1tech.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=28 < thats the link to the hybrid forum. Good luck

whoa that was a quick response. thanks for the link. stupid custom k member will probably cost me a fortune to have made since i won't have access to the tools i need when i'm ready to make the switch.

hey folks i'm considering throwing as much as possible from a c5 corvette z06 into my 95 lt1 z28. i hear a custom k member is a must, so i'm wondering how much it might cost to do the whole deal, k member construction and total engine swap. i'd like to have as much of the z06 drivetrain as possible, so does anyone know how possible it'd be to install that clutch and rear-mounted transmission?

One issue though. What's the wheel base on a C5? Adjusting that by more then a VERY small amount could be a real bear with the torque tube. Width is easy, length is hard.

ok, the deal with C5 wheelbase... its longer than an F body, but the good news is that you could cut the driveshaft from the motor to transmision, and the tunnel VERY easily.... thats what i was thinking about doing when i totaled my first car. that if i shortend the wheelbase of the C5 rolling chassis and put it under my F body body that had been modified to accept it, and had a roll cage i could have a camaro that truely handled like a corvette.

the tranny in the zo6 is a transaxle...NO WAY IT WOULD WORK...unless you spent a serious amount of cash making your car have a irs.
the engine will fit pretty much with no problems..just do a lil research a bunch of people have swapped froma lt1 to a ls1.

bgw - You do realize that the Corvette transmission is in the back of the car, right? Not only would you have to use the entire rear suspension of the Corvette, but you would have to hack the body to clear the trans. Probably would have to get rid of the back seat and do some major reconstructive surgery to the interior.
Honestly, not worth it to me for a run of the mill 95 Camaro.
If all you want is the LS1 and newer style T56, then buy a Camaro dropout and it would be a whole lot simpler.

well i have a wrecked '03 z06. drivetrain is good as far as i know, just needs a new radiator and ecu. the frame is damaged right under the driver's side door where it can't be repaired, so that car's totalled. i'd buy another just like it with a blown engine if chevy didn't build them so well.
can anyone think of an option i haven't come up with for my beloved ls6? money's tight since another z06 is my hope, but i can't stand to let that engine sit there.
incidentally, does anyone want to order me an '07 z06 for msrp? the dealers i've talked to won't sell me one at retail.

anyway, i'm thinking of doing something crazy with my ls6, but it takes a different clutch. could i replace the PIECE OF CRAP clutch in the z28 with the non-PIECE OF CRAP clutch in the z06? or maybe just switch some parts when i have to buy the z28 a new clutch (again)?
