Some things are obvious like I know it's an iron block that came out of a truck and I know what heads it has (317), but any way to tell from the other numbers the year, HP rating, etc.? This is going in my dad's '37 Chevy.

I believe the 317 heads came on both the LQ4 and LQ9 6.0 truck engines. The difference between the two is the pistons so you should be able to tell by pulling a plug and having a look.
