It's a 944 that made 318 HP/338 tq on a stock 97 LS1 and was emissions legal in CA.

 

I wonder if it'd be possible to use the 8.8" Cobra rear and swap that in also (implying a drivetrain completely swapped, but to me a t56 is buttery smooth compared to a twitchy 951 trans). If it'd be relatively feasible, man, thatd be a killlling machine on the track... road or drag.

Well someone has done the swap I was always looking into doing... O well looks good.

 

A friend of mine's Dad had one of those that had an engine fire. I always thought it would be a great candidate.

yes, they are rwd. The turbo tranny is strong enough for a LSx motor as long as you don't do wheel stands.
There was one guy who put a corvette rear end in it but it was a MAJOR overhaul.
