Default bellhousing question

i have a T56 lined up from an LS1 that i want to put in my 67 camaro. however i dont want the LS1 i want the cast iron 6.0L block. i think its the LQ9 code....not sure about that one, its the one all the turbo guys are running, , the one out of the escalade etc. anyway my question is are the LS1 and LS2 T56 bellhousings identical?

The bellhousing pattern on the back of the block is the samethroughout the Gen 3 family, different transmissions (stick vs. auto) will have different bellhousing though. Some GM trannies don't have removable bellhousings.

If you get a LQ9 you don`t have to worry about anything, but with the 99-00 LQ4 6.0L you need to watch out on the crank flange depth. On the 99-00 6.0L and 4.8L the crank flange sticks out a little further (can`t remember for sure but I think its 3/8").

All the Chevy V8 bellhousing bolt patterns are the same. The LSX series simply doesn't use one of the bolt holes: it's the 1:00 o'clock position when looking at the flywheel.

can you just swap that for the LQ9 crank to make it fit? or are you just screwed at that point

You could swap the cranks to make it fit but it is not really worth it. All the LSx engines that were made after 2000 or 2001 use the correct depth crank flange. It is only the 99 and 2000 4.8 and 6.0L engines that use a different crank.
