Thanks guys I couldnt just leave the stock piece for everyone to see under the vic jr. If I made any more of them then mine wouldnt be the only one!!! lol If there were enough interest for them i would consider making some.Its made out of 1/4" 6061 T-6
alum. and i think it is lighter than stock because it doesnt have the resess for the two knock sensors. P.S. KHShapiro I love the intake like that. Is that paint or powdercoat and are you worried about trapping heat inside the intake?

I didnt NEED to do it. The stock piece was ugly and I am a Tool & Die maker so I had some extra time at work and thought it would be something that nobody else has.

The back of the cover has a cut out similar to the stock one, to clear the cam pos sensor and the oil press sens.The back cut out and the bowtie that is machined into the plate was the most difficult part. All the sharp edges were removed before final assembly. the pics were taken during mock up
so carbed engines don't knock? it seems to me that a knock sensor would be nearly as useful on a carbed car as it would on a fuel injected one. instead of the computer handling the A/F ratio, you have to adjust it yourself. i'm no expert though, just my .02

It would be useful, but the knock sensors aren't stand-alone. You've got to plug them into something that can decode the information provided. It's like having a temperature sender without having a temperature gauge. And, I don't think there's a gauge type package that could use the knock sensor input and be useful, which means you'd need to have the factory computer to decode the information. Not something most guys who are going carbed find desirable.

Then it could retard the time when knock is detected.

I would think it'd be useful too, but the MSD setup only plugs into the Crank, Cam, & MAP sensors (and of course the coils), at least that's according to the stuff on their website.

good to know. i guess i'm not really familiar with running carbs on a gen III. i've always been a fan of the engineering thats gone into all the new school stuff (injectors, sensors, etc.). the cover looks pretty nice, but like i said, i bet it could be a lot thinner and still be perfectly suitable.
