Default Picking up a Notch

So I am picking up a 93 notch auto 4 banger with only 26,000 miles on her. The body is great. I am getting with the car a 90 5.0 and a AOD tranny. How easy, and cheap is it to put the 5.0 in? I am also thinking of going with a ls1 and auto.

What ever motor goes in it will be either rebuilt or brand new, and built. I know most people on here would probably say the ls1, but the 5.0 is free and only has 64,xxx miles on her.

I am not made of money and would like to have a pretty quick DD, as I have big plans for the TA.

basically each requires the same amount of work to install:
new computer. electronics
new exhaust
new k-member (im pretty sure the 5.0 uses a different k member)

but the 5.0 will be cheaper because all the parts available in any junk yard, whereas the ls1 will require a bit of work and custom headers

Well the guy is giving me a 5.0 motor auto tranny and mac long tubes. I am wantign to keep it auto as the traffic down here sucks. I have the TA for fun in the sun. I just want a quick DD.

I know the ls1 inside and out and would know what to buy and not to buy- the 5.0 don't know too much about, but cheaper.

The Mustang 5.0 swap is much easier. But the LS1 swap is what all the cool kids are doing these days.

The boat anchor 2.3 and its A4LD trans use different driveshafts and rear crossmembers. The auto shifter is also different between the 2.3s and 5.0s and it even has an extra gate for LOW gear. 5.0 fuel lines and exhaust hangers will help make it easier. You can do it in about 5 days. Everything else will drop in including a requisite 8.8 rear. It'll probably make 185 RWHP with the longtubes and minor bolts ons if you still have the gosh-forsaken E7TE heads and intake.

I've done about 5.0 conversions into various Fox cars and will tell you that it's simply a bolt in and go proposition. Since I'm knee-deep in my LS1/T56 - LX Notchback swap, I can tell you that an LSX swap is much more involved, but more rewarding. If it's a DD you want, you're better off with your own car with its great brakes, traction control and ABS. The Fox Mustang would be better suited for track duty. Just my 2 cents.

P.S. The A4LD crossmember sits 4 inches more rearward than on a 5.0 car. It looks like it will line up very well with a T56!

I hear ya, I might end up going turbo ls1 in the fox and selling the TA and picking up a Diesel truck.

The 4cyl k-member is the same as the 5.0 k-member,and same a-arms.The only thing diffrent is the springs and brakes

if you want a quik DD dont put the 5.0 in it. You'd have to build the **** out of it just to compete with a stock LS1.

I know I just wanted a decent DD thats not a honda. If I can drive it for a year stock, it will be getting my ls1 in my car right now.

I am wanting to go auto as the traffic sucks, and it would be faster in the 1/4 mile.

Also what kind of rears are people running with the ls1 in the Fox bodies. I would figure a built 8.8?

I'm running a 8.8 with 3.55's and an auto, with a 3200 stall. I was able to use my ford aluminum driveshaft, and the factory shifter in mine. My swap only took about 4 days to complete, and was pretty straight forward. I would go with the LS1 over a 302 anyday. My car with just a small cam, longtubes, and a converter has went 11.80, and it is a full weight SN95 car.
