Just finished LS1 swap into '97 Jeep
Hello hybrid guys - new to the forum, just finished my LS1 / wrangler project, went for a drive last night and the jeep is an animal! It looks like there are some really interesting projects going on around here, I am looking forward to reading about them and seeing them completed. Hopefully I can be of some help if anyone has any questions.

Ive seen 4.0s go for over 300k without much of an issue I love those motors. Im rolling up on 200,000 in my 94 XJ. And I beat on it regular...But I keep the maintenance up on it as well. I used to like them more than LS1s....but Ive been turned since doing the swap in my TA. Those 4.0s, if you take care of them, will run forever. They are a great motor.

i want it to be a father son project but my dad doesnt want to go trhough all the chrylser to gm stuff even though it really isnt that bad and he thinks a v8 wrangler is too much power
im working on a Lsx to S10 at the moment so ill see down the line.
found a local 1947 CJ2-a for 800$ and he wouldnt budge on that either! im bummed from it.
bet if he gets to drive the s10 when finished he would want a v8 in the jeep

I also have a cj3a flatfender with a 4.3L FI vortech in it - it's a great motor for that little jeep, if your father doesn't want to go V8 I would suggest considering something along those lines! Good luck!

I'm almost done with my LS1 into a TJ project. I have a few questions for you. What did you do for gauges? What did you do for your fuel pump?
Those are really the last two things I have left to figure out.
If you went with aftermarket gauges, can you send me a picture or two?
I think it's good to post this stuff, but you can also email me at mnevitt@offroadtoystore.com
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks for the reply.
The only issue I've had with the factory cluster is that the computer doesn't see the engine running, so it won't output a tach signal. I don't know how to get that to work. Maybe you can enlighten me. I"d love to get the factory cluster to work. The factory jeep cluster works on a a "bus" system, so you can't just interface with the cluster directly. The only possible way I could see this working is if I could somehow trick the computer into seeing that the engine is running. I guess that would take some fancy wiring from the LS1. Even then, it would be getting 8 pulses per rev, so the cpu would think it was going faster then it is.
I saw that you put in a fuel cell. I'm using the factory tank. I figured that I really have two options...
1.) I put an aftermarket pump into the factory intake system.. .I've tried to do this, but it's a tight fit, and I don't know if the intake system will work right on an incline.
2.) I use an aftermarket pump after the factory pump with a small resevoir in between. This sounds like the best system for me because it would use the stock intake system and should work pretty well at angled situations.
Anyway... thanks for your help. You jeep looks great
