Nice project, RRR. Currently working on 2001 LS1 conversion into 65 cobra body kit. I'm using 6 spd out of transam and doing conventional install, i.e., cut for standard bellhousing. Have you attempted standard (non vette)conversion? Any disadvantage to using Z28/transam setup instead of vette?
BTW, love the Z06 wheels. They need to know its really a vette!

The drive shaft stock length is 43" I think, I don't quite remember.
As for using a Trans-Am / Camaro style LS 1 works fine, and if your looking at more of a drag car that's fine but we like cars that are more handling oriented so the additional rear weight of the the C5 Corvette trans axle made since. Me I like to race for more than 10 Seconds at a time so we look more at auto cross than drag racing. We have looked at building a C4 corvette suspension chassis for the Cobra's but haven't tried it yet. I have adapted Z06 Brakes to the C4 Suspensions to make them look like C6 stuff. before.
I'll start a thread for My 32 roadster and go into more in depth about it. A lot of guys are using the C4 stuff because of its simplicity and i think it will be of use to some one.

Lightness is engineered more then it’s added.
This frame we came up with it after several simpler frames looking at what needed extra strength and what could be sacrificed for weight. The only 2 modification I’ll be making to the next one will be to the rear outer rail making it wider for leverage and stability. The second will be narrowing the rear for a set of 345/35/19 Michelin Pilots (13.6 inches wide) on a set of 12 inch wide Z06 Rims so the little bitch will hook up.
The suspension and drive line is the easiest way to lose weight that’s why we started using the LS1 and the all aluminum corvette suspensions. As much aluminum as possible, its strong light and good for almost everything, from dash boards to fuel cells, fly wheels, pulleys any thing you can replace with aluminum. I’m thinking of even building a frame from aluminum when I feel more secure with Aluminum Tig welding.
If your using fiberglass bodies or are using fiberglass to strengthen an area, look at core-mats and balsa wood composites, they’re lighter and stronger
Spider structures, where you use a “web” pattern or a series of triangles instead of solid plates, or smaller round tubing for supports where large stamped objects are normally used, also when looking for a part of a piece, look around at different ideas and find how to adapt them to your application, go to the hard ware store and see. You won’t believe how many time we have found that little “thing” that will fit right there.
Think light thoughts and take a crap before you drive that will cut a pound or two.

Ding Ding Ding
and the contestant has weight in at a deadly
1832 LB
With a front rear split of 45/55
This the the weight of the complete rolling chassis with steering, master cylinders, cooling system and fuel cell.
The chassis alone with no body weighted in at
1467Lb
and the body at
356Lb
Put that in your pipe and smoke it

Sorry guys, I sold it the guy who's building it is sending me updates as it goes but so far nothing. I'm holding out for mine after i finish the 78 corvette. I have the molds so i'm also saving to have sweet carbon fiber / Kevlar body made and cut 150-200 pounds. If i see anything i'll pass it along
(I'm also going to be on tv putting a LS7 and a C5 suspension under another car so that's keeping me from my projects)
