You said you were painting this at your fathers shop right? So the problem must be that someone was running around the shop spraying a can of WD40 just before you began spraying the car right?

Readers digest version....
- Called a guy I known for a while that owns a paint booth
- Guy says no problem I can use his booth to shoot my car says no problem
- Called last week and ask if this weekend is fine
- Guy acts weird and says that I can't use his booth
(side note heard an employee was fired for stealing)

- Called a guy I built a motor for a while ago and told him the story
- He said his painter will paint the car
- Car arrives and painter doesn't want to paint the car because they didn't do the body work, generiously offer to redo the body work so they can "be sure its done correctly" and paint the car for $3000.
- Loaded up the trailer and got the car this morning
- Now we're working on a place to spray the car...

I'm sorry to hear about that!

If you've known the painter for awhile, then he should be able to trust that you wouldn't steal from him, but the bottom line is it's his booth.

I hope that you work something out. It would be a shame if that held you up with all of the work that you've put into the car so far!

Good Luck Phil and Thanks for the details!

I don't know what the real issue is but we'll get it figured out. Worst case senario is we paint it in my garage in a make shift paint booth.

What is the deal with bodyshop deals Phil? I really feel for you since I've been there too!
My bodyman (friend) had my damn car for over a year.
Everytime I checked on the progress (or lack thereof) I was told "two weeks" over and over again.
I finally got the car done and it turned out awesome, but I think most bodyshops and machine shops have a hard time commiting to any one persons time requirements!
Good Luck man!!!
Rant complete....

Nothing wrong with the plastic paint booth. My camaro was painted like that along with a string of other cars we have done. Just have to work twice as hard with the 1000grit and polisher. I know you will get this figured out. Hell someone should jump at the oppurtunity to paint this thing. The car will be in the winners circle every race that it enters.

with you one the makeshift paint booth.
in fact i have ahd better results from non paint booth jobs.
teh key is to keep the dirt down and wet the floors. been doing that for years. worked well for me.

good luck in getting it painted.

Default Garage is good

U bet, wet the floor down. Use an old blanket and wet that puppy also.
Wet dirt Don't Move !

Did my hood in the garage this way and turned out awsome !
Naturally did a garage cleaning a couple of days prior to painting.

Good Luck

Hell, if I lived in MD, I would paint it for you. I haven't had much luck with body shops either. That's how I learned to paint. One could mess up a paint job 5 times and still come out ahead on time and money.

The deal is my dad has a 3 car garage and has enough stuff to fill a 3 car garage. We've got the center stall sectioned off to spray and has worked great so far. I'd like to paint it in my garage since we have ALOT more room but the heating issue comes to mind. With all the paint fumes we're alittle worried about what type of heat we use to heat the garage and with the temp in the 30s its going to be tough. He has a Propane wall style heater where I only have a kerosene/fuel oil bullet style heater. I had thought about going to the dollar store and getting 10 drop cloths, lining 2 stalls so we can paint everything in one shot.
