Default LS1/T56 - while it's out

Any recommendations on things to change (respect to maintenance) not looking to get more power at this point.

It's a 01 Camaro SS L1/T56 engine with 33K miles on it; I will be putting it into a 69 Camaro.

Might as well change the clutch. It would also be easier to change the cam while its out.

Swap out the factory rod bolts for some ARP or Katech ones, swap out the clutch, and maybe swap out the pulley tensioner.

Pistons too. just gives you more options later on to have forged pistons.

Default oil pump, cam, pistons

I understand that the pistons comment was a joke, but an oil pump at 33k miles? C'mon guys. Lets not give someone that is just getting into the ls1's the wrong idea. I would inspect the clutch and flywheel and also make sure there arent any oil leaks, if not then your ok. Did yall not read where it said maintence, not wanting to get more power. You shouldnt have really anything wrong and need to go into the motor. Hope this is helpful, Josh

correct we lost the "maintenance" part but we were going with the while it's out mentality make it easier for later. really he could just throw it in there and call it a day. I mean it is a Chevy right?

Default while its out

While mine was out I did cam, all new gaskets, ported the heads, valve spring, clutch, flywheel, etc. I would have liked to do pistons, and rod bolts. It is a chevy though. Put it in and run it.

Are you kidding? At 33K miles?

Guess you better swap the water pump too.

Default oil pump

Water pump, that was a good one. How about the starter, alternator, all the injectors, etc. I dont know about most guys on here but I am on a budget. I spend my money where it counts. My motor has 60,000 miles, I did a cam swap and didnt change the oil pump. I got some flack from a few people, but I think it was money saved.

I fell for that one, only because that's what I do in real life. I think to myself.....It would be that much better if I changed this, and that, and that, ....hell you might as well change out the block while you are at it.

Honestly if your not looking to make any more power than stock, I would change nothing. Possibly a new clutch, but I would measure the disk first to see what kind of wear it has.

If you think changing a Oil Pump with only 33k on it is overkill. .suggest you search on Low or no Oil pressure problem in the forums...

My take out (99 LS1) was suppose to have low miles.. (40k)..and on starting it up after being ins torage for almost a year.. I had either very low or no oil pressure and had to remove the engine (to change to a new stock LS6 pump and new O-ring) to fix the problem.

The oil pump was a big issue on the 97-00 LS1`s, but the newer ones had better quality control and are a lot less likely to fail.

I would say change it anyway if you are in there doing a cam and timing chain, but if you are going to keep the motor stock you probably don`t need to worry about it. My oil pump has 140k on it and it still pushes 40-60 pounds at anything over idle.
