E Mod, unlimited displacement: 1800 lbs. with driver.
Deduct 50 lbs if less than 51% weight on driving wheels.
I think with me onboard my car is just over 1900 lbs, so I can still get rid of 150 lbs somewhere. I bet I have 20-30 lbs in the heavy side pipes, and another 20 lbs or so if I switch to lighter wheels/tires.

You just made my night as far as planning this thing...here I was expecting to have a car that was going to need to weight 1950 and then over 2100 with me in it. PERFECT!

99, I know the big thing with the 7 guys was the fact that the Factory 5 Cobras and other Cobra replicas are now sanctioned to run in E mod...(at least I thought I saw that skimming the rules tonight) which is a damn travisity.

I have a Cobra, but I also had a Hayabusa powered 7 in the works before I canned the project. I never thought the Cobra had a chance against the bike engined 7. It wouldn't even be close.

the lotus 7 kit cars would be the lightest possible "car" but they really arent cars IMO. more of oversized go carts.
nobody has mentioned what im doing, an S30 Datsun 240Z. from the factory with full interiors they weighed in at 2200 lbs. the LS1 is actualy lighter, and shifts more weight to the rear wheels. there is a ton of aftermarket suspension support for them. the biggest problem is finding one that isnt rusted to hell...

the biggest probelm with the 7 style cars and BIG power in trying to get it all to the ground. the fastest road leagle 7's over here are running highly strung 2.0-2.3ltr motors making about 250-280bhp or some are going 1.3 busa units with a turbo and making 350bhp! they are VERY VERY fast!
we also have V8 guys that are pushing more like 260bhp and they have LOTS of traction isusse! and thats at the curcits with cut slicks not on the road!
still be very nice to see a we prepeard 7 with a nice lsx in there.

thanks Chris
EDIT: also the thing with V8s or multipul bike engines (yes it has been done over here! lol) is they just put too much weight too far forward! a desent set up one should have the weight quiet far back. this REALLY helps put the power down when coming out of the corners.
also, and im going to sound like a puirist here, the original lotus 7 was designed to be litght and nimble. 500kg or about 1000lbs is easy to get to with a 2.0ltr unit and you can push 260bhp no probs. so that give you a power to weight of 520bhp per ton. so if you car is going top be in the 1900lbs region then you will need to make 432ish bhp to match that of the lighter car.
now this is no hard feat from an LS engine, but then you have to fit tires that can put that power down, they have to be bigger and weigh more.....and it goes on and on!

Price/performance it's hard to beat though; a second generation RX7 can be had for ~500-1000 dollars in great condition with a dead/MIA rotary. Third gen cars are 4k-6k for a good roller, but they're damn pretty. Same rear end essentially, but with a torque arm setup.

Sorry for the continued :threadjack:
As far as daily driver cars...RX7 is probably the best. Porsche 944 stripped down, conquest/starion.

I got you all beat, how about 1410 with fuel and driver. I have a Porsche 914-6 with glass front fenders, glass hood with heat exchanger, gutted doors and interior, 2 carbon fiber go-cart race seats no carpet and the roof chopped 4 inches, lexan front shield and rear glass, lexan side windows, glass deck lid, full road race suspension and 930 turbo brakes, the most weight is in the ZF trans. The car runs high 9's and goes over 180+ at Pocono. The LS1 has been lightly worked, cams intake and porting on the heads. I us an FAST Injection setup. The car runs and drivers like a daily driver. Gotta love GM FI.
