Default 89 240sx LS1 swap

I have an 1989 240sx that is in almost flawless condition aside from the blown KA. I already have a 90 with a Sr20det and some mild upgrades, blaw, blaw, blaw. I'm so tired of messin with with 4 bangers. I recently discovered that an LS1 swap is becoming increasingly popular. A chevy small block is a thousand times cooler anyway. I can handle the physical aspects of the swap like the motor and trans mount, driveshaft, radiator, etc. The only problem that I feel I may have is with the dash wiring. Will the 240 tach and speedo work with the LS1? Does anybody know of any bugs that often pop up during this swap? Any links to wiring the whole thing up now that I think of it? Sorry for all the questions, but where can I find a good LS1 for a reasonable price?

the wiring IMO was the easiest part. im currently doing a write up to have all functions of the stock dash however with an s14. s14 would be along the same lines since all you would really have to do is hack the brown/white plug to the ls1 outputs. of course the speedo needs a calibrator inline. if you dont mind custom gauges i would just get some autometers and make a cluster. otherwise youll have to scratch your head a little. its not hard and is quite doable, just takes some tinkering.

we are about to pick up a 90 hatchback to start on our 2nd swap to say weve played both ends of the feild with this swap

you can maybe find one on ebay for cheap or check around on the classifieds...I really doubt you will find one in a junk yard but this sounds like a good idea to go fast

Cheaper and easier to find than SR or RB parts I would guess. That's probably all you need to know.

depends on how into the wiring you want to go. bare essentials its just about the same amount of work to wire up an sr. for all functions and a real nice setup its a bit more complicated but equally simple. if you can wire an sr you can do this.

Thanks again. This swap is starting to look very doable. It's kinda funny because my buddys 98 Z28 got rear ended and totalled out last weekend. He wants $4500 for engine and tranny and everything to make it run. Sounds kinda steep, but its only got 55K on it. Might be able to talk him down a little. Any advice?

Tell him to stop being a douchebag and start being your buddy? I bought a 98 Z28 package for $2300 6 months ago and mine has 30K.

haha...you guys are right. I think I got him down to $3800. I know I already asked but where are these majical places that sell such cheap motors? What would be the best way to make NON solid motor mounts to be easier on the block?

Sorry guys but the LS1 240 swap is being put on hold. I just dont have the funds right now. So I guess I m going with a turbo four banger. I just need to finish engineering school. Then I'm going to do a LS1 240 real real big!!
