Default truck/f-body alternator electrical interchange

On my s-10 I am using complete 04 truck front accessories and the pcm and harness are programmed for an 02 f-body. Will the f-body pcm be able to control the truck alternator correctly. The truck pcm controls the alternator much the same way although through a different terminal. I disgarded the stock charge light in the dash the voltmeter is all I need idiots need lights. Thanks

What terminals are used on your alt? I thought all LSx alternators used terminal B (the charge indicator wire that goes to the idiot light, or the PCM or the 500ohm resistor)

And that the trucks and vettes also used terminal C (goes to IGN + voltage)

Do you have a wiring diagram for the 2004 truck alt? I`m at school right now so I don`t have any diagrams with me.

Well I looked it up on alldata and the pcm controls the alternator on terminal b which is the field duty cycle. But it also showed brown terminal c coming from the truck pcm for the chg indicator. I guess I'll try it wo the chg lam connection and see if it will charge the f-body does not use this wire just the field control wire.

Anyone else know if the truck alternator will charge wo the idiot lamp communication to the pcm.

If the diagram for a 2004 looks like this I believe you need the second wire.

So both B&C pins at the alternator are fed with 12V for charging?

Kind of, pin C is fed 12V directly from the ignition whenever the key is on (IGN +). Pin B is fed 12V, but it is fed through a resistance source (either a light bulb or a resistor). You MUST have either a light bulb or resistor between pin B and the 12V IGN + source or you will quickly burn out the regulator in the alternator.

What kind/size of resistor should I have between pin B and IGN +12V source? 500Ohm?

I need to test this as my alternator only begins to charge after 1000rpm on the engine (with standard truck pulleys) with only the Pin C connected to +12V.

Some people say 500 0hm, but radioshack does not carry 500 ohm resistors and the factory GM diagrams show a 470 ohm resistor anyway. Either will work.
