How are you going to bolt the bellhousing to the engine? Can you get an adapter that will work? If your clutch disc is the correct diameter, it should work, but I don't know what you will do for a pilot bearing. You can get an extended bearing but it's made for a GM transmission.

im using a gm bellhousing. sooo any 11'' clutch will work with the 14inch ls1 flywheel. pilot bearing is supplied by adapter company to fit into the ls1 crank and allow for my trans input shaft to go into it, its basicly the ls1 pilot bearing bored out to slide onto my jeep trans

I have a stock clutch disc at home. I will try to remember to measure it tonight.

Yes, it does sound right. The Gen III clutches are dfferent in construction than the earlier ones. I haven't seem a 4.8l clutch up close and personal, but I do have a '04 GTO clutch, and a '89 Chevy 1/2 ton clutch sitting on my workbench. The pressure plates will interchange on either flywheel. The GTO pressure plate is quite a bit taller than the old style pressure plate. The GTO clutch disc is also quite a bit thicker than old clutch disc. Finally, the GTO flywheel is thinner than the sbc flywheel.

So what I am getting around to saying is you need to use a Gen III clutch with a Gen III flywheel. That rather sucks, because the 4.8l clutch set is nearly twice as much as an old style chevy clutch.

I don't think the GEN III disc is 10 spline.

i got a 6.0L chevy silverado 2500 clutch/pressplate/flywheel for 75 dollars at the junk yard. same bolt up pattern, 168tooth count, 10count spline clutch 14inch pressure plate

bad thing though is that its iron.. very heavy, almost killed myself taking it out of my jeep. took off the pressure plate and the clutch still looks brand new- 6.0L clutches are 500dollars too!

That is the same combo that I'm using in my setup plus I'm using the hydralic throw out bearing.
