Default will this tranny fit

I have a 96 s10 with a 4l60e. Will my tranny bolt up to a 2003 5.3L? I know they make spacers and longer bolts and what not.

yes, it will bolt up. I used a '98 S10 tranny in my Jeep first go around. You will need the gm spacer, and you will have to mildly modify the 5.3 flexplate to do so. Take a look at my webpage, I have all the info you will need there.

On a final note, your tranny will probably die a quick death once all is said and done. Mine was bad to begin with, and several others I have spoken with got less than a couple hundred miles before theirs died. Just a FYI...

Alright thanks for the info. I will check into seeing what mine would cost to rebuild versus getting one for the lsx motor

First of all your web page was very helpful!

Couple of other questions...

1. Did you have any issues with the 5.3L ECM controlling the early style 4L60E? I've got a 97 year model 4L60E (non-removable bell housing, 4 bolt style tailhousing) that has already been built along with transfer case adaptors so I'd really like to be able to retain it with the LSX style motor.

2. Was the issue you had with the transmission burning up due to it being old or some design/capacity issue with the 4L60E? I'm trying to figure out if a "built" 4L60E will hold up to the 5.3L engine. This is all going in a tube frame off-road rockcrawler/buggy with an Atlas II 4.3 transfer case, 1-ton axles, 40" tires, etc.

Thanks for the help!

The 4L60E I used was out of a '98 S10. Electrically, it was plug and play. The computer seemed to be controlling it as it should. Though the tranny died, I have no idea whether it was a good tranny or not to begin with, and it sat for a couple years before I got it into the Jeep. It would shift from 1st to 2nd, then start slipping. Rather than bother with it, I decided to put a 5 speed in instead...

The S10 and then the others are both 4L60s but they are not the same. The S10 version is lighter duty and would have trouble living too long behind a V8. I wouldn't skimp on the trans.

The 4L60E I have was originally out of a 1/2 ton 4wd Chevy pickup with a Gen I style 5.7L Vortec motor. So based on that, if the tranny is built correctly it sounds like I should be ok... Does that sound right?

thanks
