Well ending up deciding to dump the RB30 swap in the 300zx and go with a LS1. I had origonally planned for the inline 6 swap and basically building a street car. But I ended up selling my current time attack project a 951 GT3 Widebody to a friend. Then I decided I wanted to do something a little different and build a time attack single turbo LSZ. I need something to compete with my buddies new car. As of right now it is gutted as you can see it will be getting a complete cage with nascar style door bars. Just got the mock up block in. Most likely I will be running a vette pan and cutting the firewall and trans tunnel alot. I will be shooting for 50/50 balance and the firewall will pay the price. Not sure as of now if I will be running motor plates or standard motor mounts and modding the crossmember. All depeneds on how the pan fits once I get it and how far back the motor will need to sit. Should be getting it into the shop within the next 3 weeks. Besides mounting up the engine and cage we will be mounting the 15g fuel cell in the spare tire cut out. We will be tying in weld in sub frame connectors also. Here are some pics of the progress so far just been gutting it and getting ready for the cage. Sorry for the crappy pics but the garage is really small. Also should be pressure washing the engine bay soon dont worry. Should have updates soon hopefully. And yes I just sat the block in there and if you notice it is balancing on a gallon of juice.

Heres the old time attacker. It went to a good friend and he will be doing complete 968 drivetrain and turbo sometime soon. The LSZ will be getting a very similar cage.

Yes and YEs...hahahah think I am going to do a s14 240 swap..work out all the bugs, then probably sell it and do a 300 swap. For buget purposes I say go Iron 6.oL, L92heads/ L76 intake manifold, single turbo think around a T76 would work great and have little lag. You can flip the truck manifolds and just make a basic crossover pipe. ULTRA DIRTY good luck

 

Thanks man I was going to do a S13 swap before I picked this Z32 up for cheap. I wont get to pick up the motor and trans for awhile but hopefully it will be aluminum when the times comes. But that def would save me some cash to go iron. I am planning on a simple flipped truck manifold setup and a t76 would probably be sufficient.

Thanks man it should turn out pretty good and I should have the cage and fuel cell dont with 8 weeks. It will be tight to find time to get it done but it will happen. I have done alot of research to aid in the swap going as smooth s possible. I will have updates soon.

Push the rear sump far enough back to clear the steering......or
Put on a front sump pan and relocate the sway bar, maybe not but that space doesnt look big enough.

Are you gonna try something different?

I cant stand working on nissan motors, but 300/350 z's handle nice.

 

Real skeptical right now on the weight. I am hoping for under 2700lbs. I feel it is very doable. Stock weight is 3219 and the swap will lose a little weight over the iron v6. I also am loosing all the interior running sheet metal dash and 1 kevlar carbon seat. Removed all the sound deadening and it weighted in at 70lbs. The stock dual exhaust is crazy heavy. Plus the heat and ac assemblies and the door glass and power window assemblies. Also there was about 130lbs in wiring harness and modules removed lol. I dont see any reason the car wont weigh in at 2700 dry as long as the cage dosnt go to crazy. Thanks

 

I will be doing a different setup than anyone else has done. Sense this will be a caged track car and has no street or daily driver limitaions I will be doing alot more cutting than all the others. I am shooting for 50/50 weight. I will be cutting the firewall and trans tunnel alot to get the motor back. I will be running a rear sump pan. I may end up running motor plates depending on how far back the engine ends up sitting.

 

The white z that was done (krazeezx) mentioned his weight distribution was around 50/50. He massaged his firewall a bit, but it seems you are less restricted as far as how much you will cut. I should think weight distribution will not be a problem.

what are the specs on the motor? forged internals and a big snail?

 

As of right now the plan is a stock LS1/T-56 and a S80 on tubular manifolds. Then put all the rest of the money into suspension and brakes. Then once it blows do heads cam, intake and a forged shortblock.

 

Well I finally got it into the shop last week and got to work on it a little. Finsihed gutting the doors and started to mount up the fuel cell in the spare tire cutout. I wont get to touch it until middle of next week. But then I should get a good 3 weeks work in. I will get some update pics once it is worth while. I ended up picking up ls1 intake and a t-56 case and vette pan to aid in the mock up. I have decided to run motor plates sense the motor will be sitting pretty far back. It appears I will be cutting up the firewall like I had planned to get the weight distribtion desired. Again this car is being built to compete in Super Production and or ITE so I dont have many restrictions. I will keep everyont informed. Thanks

 

y is the mock up block facing in the wrong direction?
the "distributor hole" is facing forward.
just asking if theres a reason u are lining up the engine that way

When you say you've found a Vette pan, do you mean the C5 batwing pan, or are you using a C6 pan?
I don't know if you saw it but a few weeks ago there was a Z32 for sale on ebay with an ls1 swap in it. It's interior was gutted and it was a track car, I think it was pretty light? I wish I could remember more about it/ find a link.

 

I am talking about the batwing pan and no I wish I had seen it on there. I havnt even seen anyother gutted Z32's with Ls1's
