Question about the ECM.....
This is one of the few questions I haven't been able to find a definate answer to on here.
Im running a stock 04' GTO LS1 w/ Hinson's headers, with a 2000 corvette ECM. Aside from having the VATS disabled, will I have to have it tuned or not?
I know I can send it off to have the VATS removed, which I'll do if thats all I'll need since I live in a small town.
Thanks!

YES!!
You don't need a tune, but you do need to have the program changed to run the cable throttle body on that GTO motor. The Vette's were all Drive-by-wire, and you are going to have a very oddly running engine if you don't have the program changed.

You may also need to have certain other things removed such as the rear O2 sensors if you are not using them. There is nothing wrong with the drive by wire throttle body. I am using it on mine and love it. It works on the LS7 Corvette, should work on things we do too.

I'm going to get a tune, but my concern was being able to get everything done and starting the car to make sure before I take it to get the exhaust and tuning done.
I live in a small town and was hoping I could get away with hauling it to atlanta only once.
But I think I have decided to go ahead and install a new cam (probably around a .598 lift) also, so I guess Ill just have to get it all done and hope for no issues that would cause me to bring it home and have to take it back.
Thanks for all the input everyone!

Depending on who you are going to have tune it later, maybe they can put a starter tune on the PCM (through the mail) for you to get you going. Then you can tune it on the dyno later when you have all of the bugs worked out. Of course, depending on the duration of the cam, you may be able to run the car on the stock tune for a little while to get going. I ran the stock tune with my 224/224-112 for some time until I got HPTuners.

I'm not sure. How much duration? You might want to ask in the Tuning forum if anyone has run something like it on the stock tune. It probably won't idle well and might stall a lot (mine did) but it should be good enough to get the car fired up.

Well, after deciding to run an MS4 and have TSP do a base tune for me, it seems I run into another snag.
I was told that I cant run the C5 ECM with the 04' GTO throttle body (cable type).
I have an 04' GTO LS1, stock P&P TB, 2000 F-body harness, and a C5 ECM. So am I correct in thinking I need to just source and F-body ECM?

Correct, the C5 ECM isn't going to work for you, it is designed to run an LS2 engine with Electronic Throttle. Earlier you said you had a 2000 computer... what happened there?
You need any of the computers from 99-'04 (Camaro, Truck, Corvette, etc). A proper tuner can set any of those computers to work for you.

So it will work? Did the C5's have drive by wire?
Man, Im really getting confused....

Oh, wait, I was thinking '05, not C5
The ECM you have will work. You just need to contact someone who can reflash it and make it work properly.
Or, get a computer from a cable TB vehicle like a Camaro or GTO.
Any of those computers can run the engine, it is just the programming that differs.
Try Speartech or Fastchip.
