Default Cheaper motor?

I am wanting to swap a lsx motor in my 89 notch and was wanting to do a 6.0 out of a truck. I read where the oil pan will sit lower but besides that is there any other set backs that anyone knows of? Also, will this motor make about the same power as a ls1 or would getting an old ls1 be worth spending the extra money on? Thanks

im wondering about the truck motors too. my main question is the intake. can you put a lower intake, like a ls6 intake, on the truck motor? i wanna do another one for my wifes 240sx but wanna do it much cheapier.

I think you can. I read an article in a chevy mag where the tested the truck intake on a ls1 motor so I'm sure they're compatable.

All interchangable. Trucks motors are more durable anyways. Cheaper costs as fewer hotroders are after them.

Also, would the 6.0 get around the same mileage as the LS1?

I am putting a 6.0 in my 92 LX right now. I would recomend it to anyone, so far, happy as hell with it. The pan will clear fine, BTW. Definitely get an 02 and up LS1/LS6 style intake w/ the coolant tubes. It will bolt right on to an LQ motor. Gas milage will not be quite as good as LS1 for several reasons, but in stock form the 6.0 is a much better way to go, IMO.

You can bolt on some ported LS6, L92, LQ9, or even some 5.3 heads and get the compression up for a salty NA combo...

...or just leave it stock, slap in a camshaft/springs and hang a turbo on it for a reliable 600hp.

I have seen reference to figures between 60# to 88# depending on what article / book you read. Big advantage of the iron block is that you can bore it. The 4.8L and 5.3L block can be bored to 5.7L with no worries, and after inspection, can usually become bigger. The aluminum blocks are light, but sleeved. You can't do much there, and re-sleeving is not always reliable for street use. The skill of the machinist really comes into play there.

I am looking to replace a LC2 and wanted to see what kind of weight I would be adding to a already heavy '87 Regal.

Oya... I am looking for fully dressed numbers. Alt, A/C, P/S...
