Default 3rd Gen Fuel Pump

Does anyone know what the stock 3rd gen fuel pump flow numbers are?

LS1 (98) in an 88 GTA has been up and running for over a year with no problems but considering a little spray now and wondering how much I can run w/out fuel pump change. Logging runs at the drag strip the stock injectors are showing a max of 76% duty cycle.

Results or issues form anyone else w/ the LS1 in a 3rd Gen and stock fuel pump that has added spray appreciated.

Yes,I would like some info as well, plan on doin the gen3 swap in my Iroc soon. Any aftermarket pumps perhaps, that drop in. I plan on using the 97-98 style fuel rail, and run the return line,or use an aeromtive regulator, and return off the regulator using factory lines.thanks

Best bet is to swap in the 99+ plastic tank as it's a direct fit. The stock LS1 pump is good for it, plus you will have more options if you did swap out the pump later on.

Just a side note; I used the Corvette fuel filter on the swap car to control the fuel pressure and handle the return.

check out thirdgen.org I know it's in there like a hundred times. I am using the walbro tpi pump which is made to take these higher psi ratings the ls1 needs and is a high volume unit.

Huh...I didnt even think the stock 3rd gen pump would run the LS1...?? I swapped to the 99 plastic tank to avoid messing with changing pumps and having easier hook up of the fuel lines and senders etc.

A lot of guys would be interested to know if the 3rd gen fuel pump can keep up with the LS1...almost everyone upgrades to the walbro or something.

MrDude was one of the first LS1 third gen swappers and hes running a TPI pump. Well at least he was I haven't seen him on the boards in ages. I still think for the low cost of a pump if your gonna spray it considering fuel issues are the number cause of failure on spray it just doesn't sound like a risk worth taking

Haven't had any issues at all w/ the stock pump keeping up with a pretty much stock LS1. Plenty of daily driving and quite a few passes at the local 1/8th mile strip too. When I was first reading up on the swap it seemed like everyone thought the pump could provide enough fuel for stock LS1 but that it would probably die at the higher pressure required.

I'm just being lazy at this point and trying to avoid dropping the tank. I pretty much knew it was time for an upgrade but was hoping someone might come along and say they had done it on a stock pump.

Go to a stock tank/pump. I went the Walbro route and mine is already toast with less than a year of drive time on it. Nothing like being left stranded in your car you have dumped thousands of dollars into :-(

I used the stock tank with a brand new stock TPI pump and it lasted for about 1.5 yrs (never had been sprayed at this point). I then switched to a Walbro 255 and havent had any problems yet lol. That has been about 1.5 yrs also. I'm using the vette reg./filter also and I've put about 80 lbs. of nitrous through this motor, all within the last year.

This is the pump I bought. http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...56609_-1_10307

I also need to add that my stock 99' injectors are at 105% duty cycle since my cam swap, but were right around 80% with the stock cam. Thats WOT at the dragstrip. I need an upgrade soon.

Cool. I just figured since most were swapping pumps during the swap that it was required.

I know the only issue Im having with my set up, is I dont think my pump is getting full voltage. Im going to spend the cash and get the racetronix upgrade harness. I was about to make my own and save the $$$...but that thing is friggin nice looking. Plug and play makes me happy.

Thanks for the input!

StngKlr, notice the link you sent was LS1/LS6 pump. Did you have to do any mods to make it work/fit?

Nah, they are all the same. It is just a Walbro 255 pump that is sold under another name. Should be fine.

Heres another. Probably exactly the same Walbro though.
