Default why carb an LSx?

i see alot of LSx swaps running a carburator!

why in good faith would anyone want to roll the technology clock back to the times of the carb?

LS series stands out alot with its fuel injected setup

and if you buy the LS motor, it already comes with all you need to run EFI

ease of conversion in a previous carb'd vehicle. Requires low pressure fuel system. Most throttle linkages will not need to be re-configured. Minimal wiring is required. They make in most cases more HP with carbs. $$$. just a few reasons.

its called personal preference. to some,a carb is way more than injectors and ECU could offer. In addition, others desire that nostalgic look for which a carb is essential.Lucky for them, the LSX is such a versatile platform, it'll perform equally as well carbed as on EFI.Its for this reason you'll see a LSX wedged between the frame rails of a modern car while at the same time it'll be in a 32 duce complementing the patina on the body.

for me though, EFI all the way. I have dealt with carbs enough to know that I don't like them and they dont like me.

There are a couple reasons I can think of right off the top of my head

- People that are more familiar with carbs can have an all aluminum engine too

- Carbs on these engines can increase power output

- It may be good for some older cars. In states that require underhood inspections, they may not noitice the difference between a carbed LS1 and a carbed SBC. Therefore, the older cars wouldn't have to comply with newer standards for EFI cars.

Just a couple of thoughts, but it really comes down to personal preferance and what you're familiar with. I would never give up the EFI on my engine, but to each his own.

My two cents. I bought the LSx I'm putting in my '66 Chevelle for $300.00 with a T350 attached to it. It did not come with a harness and computer or pump, ect. But did come with the FI manifold and injectors and TB. BUT it's still gonna be cheaper to make the thing run, having to buy a carb manifold and the MSD ignition, than making the FI work in the '66.

I'm putting a carb on mine because I'm more familiar with it and I happened to have a nice carb here already and a truck setup for a carb already. I also won't have to make a trip to the tuner's shop(hours away) to get tuned. I would love to go with EFI, but it just seems easier for me to put a carb for now until I can collect all the parts needed for EFI and learn to tune myself.

How is this for a reason?

"Testing The New GM L92 Cylinder Heads - 550 hp for Under $4,900
Beat this! With a cam and head swap with pump gas on a Gen III 6.0L we made 550 hp for under $4,900"

pretty much what everyone else said: familiarity, price, power. There is nothing wrong with a carb'd motor. Some people find them easier to tune, an cheaper to tune/rebuild. Fuel injection, as said before, has extra wiring, usually computer controlled, and expensive as hell (compared to carb). But they both do the same thing, its just a matter of preference, and the feel that you're trying to give your car (hotrod vs. modern)

i bought my car with a basic swap already done (basic meaning stock). i had relay after relay blow and the car kept leaving me stranded, 7 times in the first 6 weeks of owning it. that's when i decided enough was enough and made the switch to what i was more familiar with. i also highly prefer the old school look over the basic lsx look.

below is a pic of when i first bought the car, and a semi recent vid of an almost completed semi-detailed engine bay, (smoothed and rattle canned semi-flat black)...

Personally, even though Im running FI...I think the carbed set ups look much much nicer and cleaner. There is only so much you can do with all the wires. Ive seen some guys really clean the bays up...but most people dont achieve that same effect.

Does anyone know if the carb gets as good gas mileage as the efi?? My guess is it doesnt. not really a big deal, just curious.

Im kinda bad with carbs...or else I might think about going carbed. Would have made the swap a lot easier.

J.

I just checked my gas milage last week, I got 15mpg. The car gets the same maybe better mpg than my 01 5.3L Tahoe and the car runs 11.70's on the motor.

I've been using an Innovate LM1 with my carbed 6.0. It makes tuning really easy on my HP750 carb. I have it tuned to give very similar AFR numbers as my buddies heads/cam 2000SS at cruise and WOT. I'll have to see if I can calculate my mileage if I can keep my foot out of it
