Default A-body crossmember pics

I have looked through most of the stickys.

Are there any pics or links to a notched a-body crossmember for the lower mount a/c compressor?

Is there a significant benfit from getting the LS as low as possible - no road racing here just a good reliable, comfortable swap into a 69 gto.

Thanks-
John

Heres a pic of mine. I didnt have to notch anything! I dont know what mounts your using, but I used S&P. The front drive system is also S&P. I think if you used there AC bracket you could mount your AC without any notching at all. The bracket moves the AC compreesor forward so you dont need an extra belt. (all assys run off one belt) My system uses a Camaro/Firebird crank balancer.

Thanks for the info- no car yet- looking for info.

I am going to get an abody frame and get the motor in place, suspension and brakes done, then look for a 69 gto body.

So does this forward position allow enough space for electric fan and coil packs on firewall?

That's not horrible if that is route I end up going.

Are those sbc frame mounts?

I have about 5" between the engine and firewall. Im running a Griffen radiator and a fan assy that is 4" wide. I still have 4 extra inches between the fan assy and engine.

Yes, those are SBC Tall & Narrow engine mounts (Energy Suspension) with BRP Style plates, I moved the engine as far back as I could to keep the engine weight more rearward for better weigth distribution. (will have to weight one of these days).

WOW- a lot more space than an F-body.

would the S&P Motor Mounts allow the A/C compressor to fit without notching the frame?

The standard S&P mount and a LS1, it would not allow a AC compressor to be mounted. They come into contact with the compressor. Not sure if they clear if turned upside down/flipped.

I installed a LS1 with f-body accessories using my on frame mounts fabricated from 2002 f-body frame mounts with factory F-body engine mounts. My engine is mounted forward of most of the swap kits and I am using factory manifolds which fit nicely. Not sure how much forward my engine sets compared to most but the A/c is located in the factory location without having to notch the frame member. This location will force you to relocate the alt because it will clash hard with the steering box and to much to grind box to clear as many have done. Mine is a 65 A-body cutlass same as a 66-67 chevelle frame. Might be different for the latter A-bodies.

I used truck accessory drive. No notch of the frame required. Dougs mounts with Energy Suspension pads. I have factory AC box so coils on firewall might get dicey. Still more room than I thought. Using F body fans on Northern Radiator, plenty of room.
