Default Headers or OEM exuast manifolds?

Im putting a LS1 in my 75 Camaro and im trying to decide if its worth the hassal to custom make a set with useing a pair of shorty headers for a
98-02 F-body . or just use the stock exuast manifolds what im asking is there really that big of a differents between the both?

If they fit, the manifolds really do flow pretty well for what they are. Headers will still perform a little better, particularly up at the high end. A good long tube will also boost your torque, but with the torque these motors build, you wouldn't be dissapointed with the stock manifold. The O2 sensor placement may be an issue. I don't recall where everything is in your car, but make sure the O2 clears, and you should be fine.

another thing to consider is the sound of the car. I think the headers sound alot better. Im running manifolds on my 69 camaro and it just doesnt sound like it did with headers....but its a totally different engine too!

I think mine still sounds "sort of OK" with cast iron manifolds.... ......Magnacharged LS2 with cast iron manifolds, cats only (no mufflers), into one tip...

If you're considering shorties, this might be worth a mention. Summit Racing in Akron, OH has had a pair of LSx truck headers on the clearence shelf for a few days now. I saw them on tues. then on Friday. They were shorty-non-coated display items for $100. Not sure if they'll phone-sell / ship items from the clearence rack, but a "sale is a sale" I'd think.

If there was any way I could use factory manifolds I would, every time.

From everything I have read shorty headers are not worth it if you have 2001 or newer f-body manifolds or vette manifolds. The dyno tests in all the car mags show the power output as being virtually the same.

If you go with longtubes and delete the cats it is worth it.

Do you think there is a sound difference between OEM intake manifolds or
shorty headers?

The short tube headers would probably be louder than the manifolds, I don`t know if it would be a deeper tone or not though.
