Default what fuel pump

I have an LQ4 and the fuel pump I used in the conversion is rated at 55 - 62 psi. Is this ok or will I be better off going with one that is rated higher and letting the regulator even things out?

Thanks,

Yeah I would get a better pump and regulate it down. Running a pump at full psi like that is just asking for a failure not to mention volume problems.

thanks for the reply.

So what psi range fuel pump would you recommend I go up to?

With the pump I have my fuel pressure at the engine is 55 psi. would this be due to the lower pressure pump or some other issue? The regulator is the gm vette one an is new.

The Bosch 044 moves a ton of fuel, good setup if you like to build now for future mods.

my pump is internal. Do I have to pull the pump from the tank or can I put an external on the outside and forget about the one in the inside of the tank?

I know I might be reaching on this one but I really do not want to pull the tank if I can get around it.

I am thinking about throwing this one on my fuel line

GSL392 255LPH High Pressure Walbro Inline Fuel Pump (Universal)

and hooking up the electrical to it and ignoring the fact that there is a pump in my tank. Is this ok or am I being dumb here.

Thanks

I am using an edelbrock. It is actually a walbro 255 but is sold under the edelbrock name for about $50 less.

Ok so it looks like I should get the Edlebrock version of the Walbro inline fuel pump and hook it into my fuel line, hook up the electrical and forget about the pump in the tank. ( the inline pump will pull fuel through the dormant in tank pump)

is this correct?

is there any way you can cut an access panel in the body above the sending unit, this would make accessing the pump sooooo much easier!

I could cut a pannel out but the floor area there is not uniform so it would be tricky to get things to look good. The floor in the truck has ridges and is made of fiberglass and wood.

Are you saying that I can't use the walbro to pull fuel through the pump in the tank?

The Walbro website I was on advertised the pump as being useful when the intake pump failed and it was to costly to replace the pump in the tank.

Am I missing something in my case?

Thanks

I replaced my low pressure in tank pump with the walbro 255. If you order the edelbrock 255 it is designed as a replacement for a chevrolet 3500 with there mpi kit. It should be a direct replacement for your pump. here is the link to the pump I used: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

The Walbro will definitely suck enough fuel to be used without a lift pump, but I would remove as much of the intank pump as possible and just run it as a straight pickup. It seems like trying to suck through a shut-off pump would be a more of a PITA than it's worth.
