Where are you at on your 6L90 conversion. I am building a new LS2 stroker motor for my Denali PU and want to go the same route. I am currently searching for a used tranny although I maybe able to get a new one at wholesale. Please give us an update or send me a PM. Thanks

Was there a notable fuel mileage increase? i know that was not the point of the swap. Thought I might ask, though.

Also wouldn't mind trying one in my Formula

TCI has a new 6 speed that will do that.

Thanks,

but will the 6L80 fit on the old BBC or not. The TCI is for sure one nice thing but I read that it will cost up to 6000$ all together. Quite much for a tranny.

AFAIK it bolts up, though one bolt is missing.

Thanks for the Info so far.

I am not an native speaker so I just can guess AFAIK means:

as far as I know - right?

If it bolts right on, why people suggests the TCI unit here in the board?

Thanks again

Hannes

Apologies for the 5 letter acronym. Yes AFAIK means what you surmised.

The TCI trans will bolt in and run on almost any GM V8. It has a stand alone controller.

The 6L80 has an integrated controller (in the trans) that needs to run "alongside" a compatible engine controller. They talk on the CAN.

Sounds like GM parts direct pricing. Don't forget the Vaseline when they bend you over on shipping.

Also these transmissions have a core charge; they end up being around $3000.
John, How does one tell the difference between the 6L80 and 6L90?

The 6l90 will be longer and have a huge output shaft with a 34 spline count ! The 6l80 is 32 spline same as the 4l80.

6l90 left 6l80 rt

If you have one in front of you and wondering which it is, you can measure from the dipstick tube to the tail housing flange and see the difference. The 6L90 is about 1.25 inches longer.

Thanks! I ordered this tranny (6L90) from a salvage yard. It was advertised as a 6L90, but having not studied the (physical appearance) differences between the 6L80 and 6L90 I wasn't sure I really got a 6L90. Definitely have the 6L90.

Bo:
Yeah the yoke is a MONSTER! Gonna have to have a driveshaft made since the truck driveshaft is way too big in diameter.

Thanks guys. I'm embarking on a LS3 and 6L90 adventure...
