Default My First Post/Conversion

This is my first post ever, so I thought I'd share my conversion with everyone.

Simple, Started with a 2002 Chevy Cavalier, added a 2000 LS1(with the six speed, not sure of part #) And whala!

Actually it wasn't simple, first I had to find the correct rearend and mount it in a car that is front wheel drive, then came re-enforcing the front suspension and fabricating mounts for the beast. Then came actually cutting the interior up to make room for the tranny bellhousing. There was a LOT more done, but I figured I'd just list the major things. If you'd like a full list of ALL work done contact me. Finally after it was all good to go(about 9 months later), it hit the road, and we realized VERY quickly that it wasn't hooking up at all.......ever. So the Cavy received a 3 inch tub, and a set of BF Goodrich Street/track slicks.

So $8000 and 9 months later, I have think I have the fastest STREETABLE(I know about Linginfelter and all of his madness, but he's not street)Cavalier. I'll have pictures up as soon as i can get a scanner.

Anyway....Thought I'd share and say hello.

Congratulations. I'm so relieved you didn't try the LS1 on a Honda (whew!). Now enjoy it. I'm doing an LS1 swap on my 69 Firebird.

My place of employment uses Cavaliers. Your project had me dreaming about tooling around on Sunday shift in my LS1 powered company vehicle.
"That's right officer, he passed me like I was standin' still! It was a white Cavalier with the Sxx (phone company) logo." (BOOK EM' DANNO!)
SSCavy, It sounds like you've got yourself a little rocket ship there!!!! Enjoy!

Hey J. How much do you think your car weighs? How about some details on the engine mods you had to do to fit the LS1 in there! Can that frame survive the torque without bending?

My Car weighs in at around 2300lbs(now). Engine mods were basically none. The mounts were mounts from and old iroc z, that my dad welded to the car, then we bought a set of adapter plates that allowed the LS1 to bolt up to any existing Chevy V8 engine mounts. Suspension is the springs, struts, and shocks from the same iroc-z. The frame should be okay, thanks to traction bars, unless I really lay into it, and start abusing it. Thus far the car hasn't been driven more than about 10 miles, and never even been close to being "opened up". Its still being tested for bugs, as well as for a proper break in.

The only pictures I have now are of the car before we began, but you're more than welcome to see them.
