Default LS1 Impala SS

96 Impala SS. I hope to finish in the next month or so. I have about 150 hours into it so far.

Still have Eaton, 4.10s, sandblast & paint rear end, wiring, relocate battery, fuel pump, N20... to do.

It is a 2001 LS1 that had 6k miles on it, so it already has the LS6 intake. I changed the cam, spring, ti retainers, ported the oil pump, change the valley cover to the LS6 version for crank case ventilation and switched to a spec stage II clutch and new flywheel. I also plan on a 100-150 shot, I just have to figure out how to hide a 12lb carbon fiber N20 bottle in the trunk (wife). I also cleaned up and painted while I was at it. I did not have a way to powder coat myself (no oven), so I ground flashing, sandblasted and used epoxy primer with a urethane color coat. My two biggest tasks remaining are rebuilding the rear and finishing the wiring.

Thanks,
Scott

did you have to modify your oil pan to fit the LS1 in the Impy?

Kevin,
It is on the road. It is my daily driver, so I am driving it about 30 miles a day and have been for the past couple of months. The only problem I have had is the ABS is not working. I did not modify the wiring for the ABS, but did have to change the rear reluctor for the 4.10s. I did change the front brake rotors as well. I used a multimeter to check the sensors yesterday and all appears to be OK. I guess I will have to break down and go to a shop that has a Tech 1 that I can plug in. EFILive can not see the EBCM. I don’t think the EBCM is bad, as it does it’s self test when I hit about 15mph. It pulses the brakes the at the first stop then the ABS light comes on and the ABS system is disabled.

I do have a lot I still want to do including:
- build and install a shift light
- install autometer oil pressure, fuel pressure, voltmeter
- hook up the N20 system with a new NX Maximizer controller
- recaro’s to eliminate 75 – 100 lbs.
- remove sub box (install subs in rear deck) to eliminate another 75 – 100 lbs.

Jeremy,
No, I modified the front cross member instead. I will post detailed pictures on the new site I am working on.

Dave,
I took the site down this weekend. I am install 2003 server on the server setting behind my roadrunner (cablemodem) connection. I am in the process of updating the site as well. I have labeled many of the 500+ pictures I took during this project. I am not sure when I will have time to finish, but I will put up the old site and pictures in the mean time.

I attached some pictures I reduced and combined.

You may notice from the pictures that I still have the automatic transmission cooler installed. I re-routed the lines and used it for a power steering cooler.

I have also completed the exhaust. I have a 4" oval side exhaust exiting right before the rear tires now. This reduced the drone so that I can actually use 6 gear now.

I also have a set of forgeline RS 17x11s ordered for the rear. I will be installing a set of Goodyear F1 GS-D3 (275/40 front 315/35 rear) as soon as they get here. I will order a set of forgelines for the front in a couple of months. I really need the rears as I am severly traction limited (even without the N2O) at the moment. The N2O should be much more useful with the new tires.

awesome project, I'd love to buld my own 6 speed version of yours someday.

this is how they should have come from the factory... no doubt.

congrats on a wicked daily driver, I think you'll be much happier with it lighter, sitting in recaros and rolling on those huge new wheels you bought!
