Default 65 Riviera

Hey guys, just thought I'd drop you a line and let you know that there is about to be another LSx Hybrid. I'm gearing up to put a 402 stroker in my 65 Riviera. I priced up the cost to build the original nailhead and throw an overdrive behind it and believe it or not the LSx should be about the same price if not cheaper.

If anybody has any links or pictures of LSx motors in a Riviera I'd like to see them. I found the "Rivette" and talked to Tim Strange, but when he did his all he had to work with was a c5 oil pan. He changed the car from rear stear to front steer along with a lot of crossmember modifications. I think I can get around all that bs with the configurations available today.

rear steer? Please elaborate, i'm looking at a picture of a riviera and the front tires are turned, says its bone stock.

Do you mean where the steering components are located?

Yeah sorry for the confusion. The steering components are located aft of the front crossmember. The original engine had a mid sump style oil pan.

Shouldn't be any different than any other 64-67 A-body...

I do like the early Riv's though.. Nice lines compared to the others.

Actually it's a lot different. The Riviera is the only early gm car to have a completely unique chassis and body. That is it did not share any other major components with any other gm vehicles.

Above picture shows a SBC swap in a 66 which was the same front suspension as a 65. The used a early nova swap pan an it just barely cleared.

Thanks for the positive support guys. I didn't exactly get that from the Buick guys. Good thing they don't know where I live.

I'm planning on a 402 or 408 stroker built for low end torque. I'm going to throw a 4L60E behind it for now and would like to convert it to a 6L80E when they get the electronics figured out and the price drops.

I'm debating over an Iron block or Aluminum. 67 Lbs isn't going to make much of a difference in the Riv.

Exactly, and the iron blocks will generally go for less $$$.

Will do!

Do any of you guys know of any cheap stroker cranks and 6.125" rods? I don't really need forged pieces, since I'll be keeping the RPM's and power relatively low.

Sorry to keep bumping all of these dead threads but I now have a 67 Riv and thinking along the same lines. I work overseas so won't be doing this for awhile.
