OD is better for MPG, but the T350 is stronger and cheaper if it breaks...............

The 350 trans will only be stronger if the intermediate sprag is replaced with a big (400 type) part. The 350 sprag is only 16 or 18 elements and a stock old iron 350 can trun one inside out pretty easily. The 400 sprag I think is a 36 element big beefy part. The sprag/drum kits are not cheap but absolutely necessary in a high perf situation. The 4L60 can take a fair amount of abuse......mine does.

4L60 for the DD duty. They can be built to take some serious power as well.

I've built th350's to 500 hp with just a hardened intermediate outer race, $60 from Summit. These are usually a roller clutch, not a sprag.....

It is very expensive to get the sprag type drum.

Stalls are a lot cheaper for Th350's,....

Depending on you're rear axle gear would be my determining factor.

I want to run really deep gears in my 89 Caprice...so I've opted for the 4L80E...

I run a th350 because if it breaks it is easy to pick one up cheap and throw it in,as well if you ever want to go manual the computer wont need a re-flash.

my car is stock with a stock 4l60e and 373 gears... turns 1800rpm on the highway and gets 21mpg, granted its expensive if it blows up but the OD is worth it IMO...

I would think a 4l60 in a light car like a fox body would last quite a bit longer than it would in an f-body

The only thing I don't like about the 4l60e is the high cost to build. I had a built 4l60e in my old camaro and loved it, but every time I drove the car hard I thought about how much it costs to have them built. Also it has been my experience that not every tranny shop knows what they are doing when it comes to anything other than a th350 or th400
