Default Miata w/V8

My wife and i decided that when the motor in her 93 Miata gets tired,we are going with a V8 in the Miata.

An LS1 might be to much, don't know how feasable it would be.A buddy of mine has done a few of these with the small block Ford.

I'm not a ford man.Maybe a small block chevy would work.

What would you put in it if you were to go with a V8?

As far as I'm concerned and LS1 is a small block Chevy. Cram that sucker in there and make it fit . But first peel off all those mazda logos and replace them with bowties .

Eddie, sad thing is the ford would be WAY cheaper to do and still fly. I drove a monster miata with a 331 stroker a few years ago and it was actually pretty damn FUN!

I'd go with a 5.0 based Ford motor.

Why? Because its been done a ton of times so all the little tricks, tips, and pitfalls are already known.

we may be doing this to my brother's 97 Miata.

5.0 would be the way to go IMO. Figuring how light the car is...it don't need sick amounts of power to FLY

A 5.0 with a Kenne Bell Whipplecharger would make that little Miata really fly!

Although I still think they are girlie cars!

I was thinking the same thing, going with the 5.0.It would be plenty of power for a Miata and they have a kit available. We plan on putting an auto.trans in it.

It's either a V8 for the Miata or a Z4.I told the wife a V8 Miata would be faster and much cheaper to build than buying a Z4.

My wife said to me"i want a V8" the T/A has her hooked on V8s.

How much heavier is a 302 compared to a LS1?

Bet the LS1 would provide much better weight balance

agreed on the weight balance.

But it might be offset with the bank book balance, you can get a full 5.0 w/ computer for $500-1400

A Ls1, STARTS at $1500 for the longblock used, +++++ compuer, harness, ect...

personally I think the weight balance would be ridiculously bad! I wouldnt spend the money unless I drove a V8 equipped miata.

I think it would be better to just build the stock miata engine for turbo duty (Greddy makes a kit) and bolt on a turbo kit. That would probably be faster (250-300+hp) than the v8 miata and it would drive WAY better. Better gas mileage too.

Miatas are a girlie car, that's why it's my wife's car.She is 4'10",it fits her perfect.

Interesting post from MarineBlue.Looks like i need to find someone who has modded a miata motor and see what kind of power they have.My wife drives an auto.may be hard to get power out of an auto trans.w/4 banger.

Theres a guy in my area who has the 5.0 kenne bell supercharger i think hes putting down like 360 rear wheel right now, he bought the kit which comes with the everything u need besides the motor and harness. He posts on the corral in the northeast section i'm sure he would respond if u posted something there. I've met him, he really loves to talk about his car so you shouldnt have a hard time getting the answers you need.
