Question Computer Controlled A/C VS Non-Controlled?

What is the advantage of the LS1 computer controlling the A/C with a 3-pin pressure sensor, versus simply letting a 2-pin pressure sensor turning off the compressor? Thanks

The computer control shuts the A/C compressor off at a certain engine RPM so you don't destroy the compressor.

The real advantage is if you are using electric fans and have the pcm controlling high and low speed on the fans. The pcm will then run the fans on the correct speed based off of a/c liquid line pressure. I have my s10 set up to work like this but you have to use an fbody or vet tune for it to work correctly.

The PCM will also bump up the idle when the compressor is on.

Of course, if you already have the computer, wiring, connectors, etc. why wouldn't you use it?

I can only add to all coments, there is no reason at all not to use the PCM to control the AC.

Fan control, revving up idle, highpressure shutoff, high speed shutoff.

It is more safe to use the PCM for this.

I have done that to mine with a Vintage Air unit. I also found a Climate Controler from Waeco to use instead of the lowtech VA controler.

Question F-Body A/C Question?

Did the 2001 LS1 F-Body's A/C system have a "low-pressure" switch? Where...on the compressor? (I know they used the 3-pin "hi-pressure" sensor/switch, located on the hi-pressure line.) Thanks

Attached you'll find the wiring for the A/C system. You'll notice only one pressure switch. I'm assuming this accounts for both high and low pressure.

judging by that schematic would I be right to assume that the A/C Request signal is 12-Volts that doesn't exceed 20 Amps?

Thumbs up Thanks Rhino!

Looks like the 3-pin sensor is the only one in the system. Thank-You.

I do believe the A/C Request is a "negative" relay trigger wire.

The A/C request signal is a +12V signal. Thats how I hooked mine up and it works Ok.
