4L60E or T56 in 86 Monte Carlo SS
I was planning on an LS1/4L60E swap in my 86 monte, but have since been considering a wrecked 99 Camaro SS with a T56. How much extra work would it take to install the T56 over the 4L60E. Would the f-body pedals be useable? And would I need a custom crossmember?

I not 100% sure with most of you setup but i can answer a couple questions.
I blew the crappy auto in my 86 monte SS and swapped in a T-5 out of a 82-92 fbody. I was running the stock 305 which is a direct bolt on. So obviously if your doin a LS1 T-56 there wont be any issues there. As for the tranny crossmember I had to move it up 2 inches and drill new holes in the frame. Im not sure how the T-56 has it positioned. Your biggest concern would be if it was left to right on the stock crossmember. Also you will most likely need a custom driveshaft. I shortened my stock driveshaft for it to fit. But your also only talkin 180 hp so there really isnt any danger of breakin it
As for the Pedals you will need ones out of a 82-92 fbody. The bolt pattern is different on each of the cars in terms of the vertical spacing where it bolts to the brake booster. All that you have to do there is cut the tabs off the one you take off the monte and weld them on the fbody pedals. Also you would have to re-route the cruise control wires(never worked on mine i said screw it). That hole where they are is where the clutch master cylinder will go. make sure you line it up right the first time as i didnt and bent the rod on the first master cylinder.
It seems like a lot of work and trust me it is but in the end it is worth rippin the gears on it. And plus im sure you know that they never made any manuals soooo
Any other questions...just ask

Sorry I should have been more specific then...They didnt make any 83-88 Monte Carlo SS in a standard transmission in the US. 305 H.O. was the biggest motor in them. And if they did offer them in mexico good luck find parts for the swap. Better off following the write up on montecarloss.com
