Default 69 Chevelle with LS3

I mostly just lurk around here to learn as I am a newbie to LS engines.
I thought I would start a thread on my project with pictures of the new Edelbrock A-Body Headers. They arrived Today. My car is a 69 Chevelle. Engine is a LS3 with a L76 intake. What I got was a crate service engine a few months back from gmcopo. It is basically a long block and he included the intake. As you will see I am along ways away. I am using ATS mounts and oil pan of which are very nice pieces. Harness is Speartech with DBW pedal. I know the Ls3 Heads have differen't exhaust ports than the LS1, but I I figured so many things I needed to buy that I would use the Edelbrock Headers rather than spending the coin for custom headers.

I made 1/2" spacer plates as I have tie rod issue on full lock turn. I have read others with 1/4" and have heard some say no issue. I can only from my first hand knowledge say that the engine needs to be raised atleast in my case. I still don't no results of the 1/2" spacers yet as I just got my steering box yesterday and have not had time to hook everything up.

My first impression of the headers is that I am happy. It appears that I may have to move engine forward a tad to clear passenger rear tube. Quality looks good. I will say it is hard to give concrete info for other A-Body guys because it all depends where you move the motor stands. Possibly if I bought the Edelbrock motor mount plates and put stands in stock location it would help. But to me it seemed with engine mounted in stock stand position that it was to far forward. The body should be in primer in about a month so this will get addressed at that time

Here is a few more pictures and details. I am using a TKO600 5 Speed with Currie 9"

Body was media blasted and is slowly being worked on.

I used UPOL Raptor bed liner under the car. It was real easy to use and laid down pretty good.

Still alot of work to do and very little free time with work and Family but someday should make for a fun car to play with.

Thanks,
Tom

Thats a nice looking project you have going there. I believe you are the first (at least that I have seen) to get a set of edelbrock headers bolted on. I must say they look pretty nice makes me wish they were around when I bought my hookers.

Project looks great and so do the new headers. Did you make your own engine mount and frame mount adapters?

The engine plates are from ATS. The spacers were made by a local machine shop.

Thanks,

What will you be doing to mount the coils or/and where are you planning on relocating them to ?

Can you also take a picture of the driver side header from the rear facing the frame.. where the stock Brake P-Valve would be, I would like to know home much room there is.. something like your 4th picture, except on the driver side.. and maybe from the top of the area..

I know on Stealth71 hooker.. it is close and he move the valve. I am about to buy something soon.. Hooker or maybe these Edelbrock's..

thanks

Great job,

Here is a picture. I don't think the prop valve would be an issue. I have not chose which steering column yet. ie; OEM or after market. With the body off it is hard to get a bearing on the angle of stock coupler and rod. If I had to guess right now based on where I currently have engine mounts that the larger end that couples to Steer-column would hit the third exhaust tube. Again sorry for no real answer but I would guess a 1/2-3/4" moved forward it would clear. I will update this thread when I can confirm. BTW Nice car you have.....it appears to be one of the ones already working and running.

As for coils: I hope to hide behind firewall but have not really checked if possible. John Speartech made my harness longer with this in mind so. If not I might save my soda cans for the Katech set up of which I like...just that it's hard for me to spend that $$ on valve covers.

Kevin 67/6.0: Valve covers came from Jegs 105.00 each as I recall

Flywheel: Pan is from ATS (American Touring Specialties) It uses a remote oil filter. The pictures below show how it clears. Even prior to adding the 1/2" spacers the pan cleared fine. I just am spacing due to tie rod issue

That is kinda funny. What are you running for a bell housing and clutch set up?
