What does your swap weigh/run? What about mine?

Our BMW E30-LS1 (1986 BMW 325) weighted in at 2865# finished with 4gallons of gas. Original manufacturer weight was 2778# with 1/2 tank of fuel (8gallons). We weighed it on accurate 4-corner scales. Front: 1590# Rear: 1275#
Before we installed the drivetrain, the LS1 with T56, front-end accessories (FBody), wire harness, intake manifold and our engine mounts weighed 603#. this came out as 260# on each engine mount, and 83# on the tranny mount.

Mine weighs 3140lbs w/ me in it. Daily driver, 62 Chevy II high mileage 5.3 w/ turbo @ 11lbs of boost it ran 10.9 at 132mph with an open rearend w/ 235 tires. I currently drive it at just over 15lbs of boost

my car is a 1977 vette... 3150 lbs. My best run is 12.2@112
carbed LS1 with cam and 3000 stall TH350 3.36 gear
not sure what power... my dyno suck 256rwhp(but I have a non locking converter) should be a 340-350rwhp car... guessing.

hi shawn- long time no speak!
i'm at long last putting my new shortblock back together and hoping to get out again this year at a push! new ls6 block, wiseco pistons, 6l crank, carrillo rods, sticking with the carb inlet and demon 750.
once sorted i aim to get mine on a weighbridge as it should be around 1700lb all up :-)

Hey Chris! What happened to your shortblock man?!
I weighed mine today. 3120 with me in it and a full tank so 2940 without me and a full tank. Not as light as i would like it to be but i did add alot of metal like the SFCs, the mini tub, the rear shock frame rail, the traction bars etc. Still not too heavy of a car though.

hi shawn
spun 2 bearings and scored the crank pretty bad. oiling issues, have had a new forged shortmotor and am just about finished building it back up fingers crossed. 6l crank, ls6 block, wiseco pistons, carrillo rods. new lifters/oil pump/timing chain etc. really need to make sure this one lasts a little longer ! :-)
cheers

think it was after a long hard track afternoon and the oil temps were well up, i spun the car a couple of times when it rained and i noticed it struggled to catch after the spin. the oil light didnt go out immediately, and when it did i noticed a change in engine tone. i drove carefully back with 4.0bar oil pressure showing but it started to rattle.
not 100% sure what went wrong altho it was a 2nd hand engine, only mods were arp rod bolts and a cam/valvetrain upgrade. i had though tried a slightly higher rpm limit at 6500rpm which it hits readily due to shortish gearing. (its doing 100mph in about 7s i guess from a standing start) and 60mph in about 4secs.
anyway i've bit the bullet now and got a new motor -ouch!

after the spin i cranked it and the oil light didnt go out as fast, but it went out. the oil pressure was showing 4bar on the gauge, as i drove off the engine note changed and i heard something not quite right. as i pulled back up the crank started to rattle noticeably.
when it was cold we span it over to try it and it was quiet as usual, but within 30s- a minute a rattle could be heard so we pulled the motor out to find two badly spun shells, crank was deeply scored.
the block itself is fine as are the bores, so i have a spare ls1 block at least for the future. not sure if it was due to me putting arp rod bolts in on a used engine, i did one bolt at a time but who knows.
regards

Man im sorry to hear that. I would upgrade your oil pan too to one with some sort of racing baffle or deeper sump to help with oil starvation. I bet when you spun out your oil sloshed away from the pick up momentarily and your oil pump lost prime.
#57
the problem is i am on a dry sump already shawn so it shouldnt have happened. i have the ARE dry sump and the oil level was ok. hence i think it was an engine issue but who knows now. the sump is shallow and has two scavenge pump lines pulling all the oil out to a remote oil tank. i have great oil pressure normally ie near 6 bar cold 4 bar hot at all times so it shouldnt have any issues but we'll see with a new bottom end and all new parts.

i'll add mine-69 chevelle, 3765 lbs w/me, turbo 400, 3.73 rear, 28" tire
lq4, corvette front acces. drive, which i added forged rods/pistons for the boost-d1sc procharger, 750 carb, a/a intercooler, hooker headers, 2.5 full exhaust-i orig had stock heads and z06 cam, swapped them out for Pat. Perf cam (225/229, 589/590) and stage 2 lq9 heads
having had several prochargers, i modded the carb myself
on a consv. tuneup, i made 488 rwhp, 431 torq (22 degs total adv) 9.6 lbs boost under the carb, 93 octane
i thought the #s were low compared to others, but would really have to run on the same dyno and day to see the real diff w/higher hp claim
im sure some was lost in the 3k converter
i ran at a track rental, best was 11.1 @ 126 mph, poor 60' and 1/8 time
i was using my lm-1 w/rpm adapter-each run i felt a small lag after launch
it reveled the converter wasnt stalling like i thought
i run a switch/pitch(old school) dual stall converter, 13", pretty heavy to get spinning, lol
i threw in a spare 400 i had, with a borrowed ATI 10" converter, made 1 pass on a diff track, went 10.68, 124.5, lost a little top speed-its just a street car, p/s, p/b, all steel, etc, so not super concerned about #'s, more about streetability-this winter it gets a 4l80e, that will give me my smaller converter, fig that will offset some of the extra weight from the 4l80e, plus i'll have the o/d and lockup-i found the LS engine was a little diff to tune than gen 1's, b.b's
i recently had Pat G speck a cam for the combo, might try it out also-
right now it is a blast to drive, pretty scary when you floor it, lol
