That looks great! Did you decide on an engine/tranny combo yet?

I'd love to drop in a LS1 5.7 + 4L60E... Car would drop at least 50 lbs and pick up a bunch of power over the SBC crate engine/TH350 setup in there now.

Man, that is a sic car. Like the black on it, reminds me of Stallone in Cobra, but glossy.

I really appreciate the nice comments about the car. I have to say when I see these pics I get real excited about the car, it's truly one of my top five dream cars to have til I die.

I love the Cobra Merc, and thought about painting my car gray too, but for some reason as I fixed this car up I decided to go for an early custom look, so nothing on the car except for the tires is post-1955. So the car is someone austere compared to late 50's and 60's customs, no pin striping, crazy hubcaps are planned etc.

I'm still planning to do a carbed LSX in the car, and plan to make it look trad. It's SBC/TH400 now so it won't be too too hard I think.

Oh and it's actually a custom very dark blue, with no-metallic. Spending all this time and money on the body, I could not do flat black but I got close.

I don't do bodywork and paint, a local MFBA guy (Paul @ Bridgeview Car Care) did it.

I plan to go to WoW. I plan to show the Merc next year.

I really like that you kept the drip rail. And the chop looks just right. I bet the guys over on the HAMB like it too.

Have you decided on a grille yet?

Yeah the car gets props on the HAMB though if I run modern Spyder caps that might change.

Notice my Hudson fuel door?

My grille will be like the green Sam Barris Merc, I have all the parts ready to get welded together and then chromed.

^idk enough about the old mercs or hudsons to have noticed the fuel door being different, it looks clean and matches the lines like its stock

i also dig the drip rails, i was planning on getting rid of mine but maybe ill just black them out

It has GM steel wheels painted, and Diamondback white wall radial tires. I might run some Spyder caps.

Jesse James has a Merc that is a lot like mine but his paint is more blue and has pearl in it.

That fuel door is a nice subtle touch.

You'll love those diamondback radials, my dad has a set on his 47 Cadillac. They are much better than the Coker ones that were on there.

Yeah, the HAMB boys can be touchy, I haven't visited there in a long while, probably since the whole "Rat Rod" thing got huge. I really hate that term and those cars.

Congratulations on a slick looking car.
