Default Starting 98 v6 to 01 ls1/t56 conversion

I was wondering if i needed anything more to make this swap complete. I think i have everything if the person i bought from doesnt forget anything.
Motor and trans, radiator, hoses, fuel lines & tank/pump, engine harness, computer, console harness, engine cradle, trans mount, pedals with slave, and steering rack. Sounds pretty complete but i am sure something is missing.

Which is the best way to pull the motor; out of the top or from the bottom. Motor and trans connected.
Thanks

Definately go out through the bottom.

Check out my web page (link is in the sing) and click V8 swap. It will be most helpful.

You need the LS1 rack and linkage. Not the steering clumn though. You don't really NEED the dash harness.. It would be a major PITA to change.

If you switch to the LS1 tank setup most likely you will ditch the EVAP system or rewire the car for it (PITA).. much easier to just remove it.

Your car is wired for 98 gauge cluster/fuel level sender.. With your 01 PCM you will need a 99+ gauge assembly to get an accurate fuel level reading on your dash cluster.

You will also have to modify 2 wires in the LS1 harness.. in the plugs that go to the underhood harness, 1 pink wire (+) doesn't have a supply feed from the underhood harness and you have to splice it onto another pink wire. Also, there is a brown wire I think that goes to another wire of a differetn color. I can't recall what it does but the colors don't match up and I'm pretty sure the functions don't either so just yank it.

Good luck!!!

I go to your site all the time to get ideas on the best way to do this. It sounds like it shouldnt be to hard. There will be three of us doing this, we all worked as mechanics and one is a chevorlet mechanic, so hopefully with all our powers combined we could get majority of it done in a weekend. The rest should just be nit picky stuff. The EVAP is the return line right, i am just going to ignore it.
Thanks

EVAP is the tank vent into the intake manifold.

You will need to use the LS1 return fuel line setup.. I have pics on the site.. It T's right after teh fuel filter back to the tank.. The fuel pressure regulator is in the tank on the 99+ ls1's.

I have the v6 and auto out. The engine harness and computer came out with the motor. The v6 has three plugs coming from the kick panel. The ls1 only has two. The ls1 has blue and white; the v6 had blue, white, and i think yellow. Do i plug the blue and white ones together and leave the extra one hanging. Thanks

blue white and black... the black is mainly the starter and fuel wires.

Chances are you have to rewire a lot of the white and blue plugs.

Check to see what color sheet your wires match up to and that will tell you what version of the plugs you have. The harnesses for the same year V6 and V8 are practically identical (- 2 wires)

Can i block the tb coolent line, i will be using the v6 radiator. Will a 98 ls1 cluster read the motor temp right?

I also have and extra plug from the clutch pedal. The one that went to my automatic shifter to check if it was in park matches one; i cant find what matches the other.

How do i connect the slave to the trans. I tried pressing it in but i cant get it to stay. Do i need to press harder or is there a trick?

I have all the lines for the tank, but will the pin points be the same for an ls1 pump?

You need the LS1 radiator side at least. That vent is very important in the bleeding of the coolant system.

To get an accurate coolant temp with the 98 cluster, you need your car to be wired up as a 98 and use a 98 coolant temp sending unit.

Your engine is an 01, you'll have to pick up the 98 sending unit and a plug for it and run your new coolant temp wire.. 1 goes to PCM, a NOTHER SEPERATE wire goes to the dash cluster, mixt hem up andt he car won't run.
