Default A few questions (harness, bHousing)...

I have an LS1 from a '99 AT camaro.

Wiring: how much can I delete?

I am going to delete the wiring suggested in Jon Rodder's Guide. There are also other several other wires I would like to delete from the PCM:

A/C: R14, R17, R18, R43; B45
AT : R6, R8, R47, R48, R51, R63; B17, B18, B53, B79
EGR: R7, R41; B41, B47, B55
VSS: R20, R50

I would like to delete all of the automatic transmission wires to the PCM. I believe that the only thing I need off the T56 is the reverse lights. I got a pigtail for that switch and will wire it into my swap vehicle myself.

Bellhousing Dust Shield?
I got my motor and transmission separately. The motor and transmission are mated right now. The engine side of the bellhousing is bigger than the engine on each side. Creating a hole on each side.

Is there supposed to be some type of shield to cover these holes? I know the starter will cover some of the passenger side hole...

Thanks,
-C

You will also need the VSS wires for the T56. For the dust shield, there should have been two small plastic covers.

My swap car ('95 M3), gets the speed from the diff. So I was going to delete VSS.

Does anyone have part numbers for the two bellhousing plastic covers?

Is there a good way to remove wires from the actual PCM connectors?

The reverse lockout on the T56 is nice to have too.

The PCM uses VSS for a ton of stuff. You can get it to run without a VSS, but it's a whole lot smoother on the street if you have VSS.

Ok, I'll keep the VSS then. I assume you can just hook it up to the T56 without making any other changes.

Instead of doing all that work, why not see if anyone has a manual trans harness that they would trade?

That's a good idea.

I already started cutting this harness though.

I have a few more idiot questions, for this thread.

I could find a definitive answers anywhere else, so here I go.

Alternator Positive Lead

I'm not sure were the positive lead goes on the alternator. This is what mine looks like right now. The black, ground wire is hooked up to what looks like what should be the positive lead connection. Then the ground would hook up to another bolt on the casing of the alt?

This is the way my motor came, so i was unsure.

One more.
There is a breather coming off my T56. Do I need to hook it up to anyhing, or do I just leave the plug over it.....

That is not a ground. It is your positive lead. it goes directly to a positive terminal block . There is only one more small wire that is in the pcm harness that connects to the alt.

If you have the plastic covers off the pcm connections the pins are easy to remove. Just cut the wire to be removed about an inch from the connector and then push the short piece and pin out the front of the connector.

Thanks for all the help. These are all basic questions, but I don't want to screw up...

Just to clarify one more time (sorry)...
The positive lead attaches to the circled post?:

I was thrown off when my motor came with a black ground wire and rubber cover connected to the positive post.

The only other question I have is about the line coming off the T56, I have no idea what to do with that....?

Thanks again!

The black wire is NOT a ground wire. It is a hot wire that charges the battery. The red wire goes from the battery to the red capped terminal on the fuse block located on the left front inner fender. This wire powers the car through the fuse block. Both of these wires originate at the positive battery cable where it attaches to the battery. If you connect either one of these to ground, you will have an early Fourth of July. Hope this helps.

hahaha, thanks.

I wasn't going to attach the charging wire to ground, just was confused that it was black.

I have everything else in the car wired up. I'll run the black charge wire to the battery and be done.
