So what are you guys doing for high performance fuel setups? I am thinking an LS1 f-body tank would be perfect for my el camino.

The 2002 LS1 Camaro fuel tank measurements are:
13" tall
32 1/2" wide at the front of the tank
28 1/2" wide at the rear of the tank
23" length from the front to the back of the tank

I think this will work out pretty well for me as here are the stock dimensions for my fuel tank:

39" wide
25" front to back
8" height

It will hang a few inches lower but Im pretty sure it will work perfect.

Any reason why this wont work other than fabbing up a filler neck solution? Since the bed is kind of at an angle upwards I think the added height wont be too bad. Also I like how there are bundled fuel systems for high hp f-bodies that will bolt right up to my tank and lq9.

Why not just put a 255lph in the stock tank and build your fuel lines with aeroquip lines and fittings? What were you planning on doing for the lines with a Fbody tank?

I used a '98 F body fuel tank in my '67 el camino. It was a steel tank, and I fabricated mounting saddles and reused the F body straps. It was a pain to get the vent tube from the inside of the filler neck out to connect my vent to.
I split the neck, and bent the vent to get it outside of the filler neck and then welded the neck back together. It had small pin holes that I used JB weld on to seal the leaks. It has worked so far. I used the entire wiring harness and fuel lines from my donar car, so I wanted to be able to reuse the tank. I think most other people are using an external pump which would be much less painfull.
I might have some pics of the completed installation if you're still intrested.

Eles, could you please PM those to me or post em up in here? Well for one I dont have the stock tank and I can get a great deal on a f-body tank, two Id rather buy a fuel cell than modify a stocker by adding a sump.

I plan on reusing the tank from the 2000 z28 donor car for my 70' Elky project.

I measured and found it would fit between the frame rails and be a little lower. Cost none, it came from the donor car.

Just an FYI,

My donor car gas tank is plastic and has a rubber hose connecting the tank to the gas cap portion. Both the elky and z28 are side fills and match up to the location of the fuel lid on the side. With the flexible filler hose, I can just move it around to where I want for mounting.

Musclerodz can order a new reproduction tank with proper baffling and a new in-tank pump already installed for $699 ! That's what I am going to use in my '72 El Camino when I install TPI on the 350.

I am just using a 95 Impala tank.. easy to install and setup. only con is that it does hang down a bit.. had to trim the to side frame about 1/4" for about 9" on each side. Cost of just $50 for the used tank.

Pros' are that it is already sump'd and does give you a few extra gallons of fuel capatcity for the the long cruise.... Stock Fuel gauge will work with the Impala tank.. 0-90 ohms.

Im guessing that intank will flow nowhere near what I need for 800rwhp and 18lbs of boost but its something to look into. I think Im going to buy the Nasty/Lonnies Dual Intank setup for LS1 fbodies. Enganeer that is the plastic tank correct vs the steel one found in 98s?

All I know for sure is the tank I pulled off looked stock, is made of plastic and has a flexible filler hose. 98's don't know.

I don't a pic of the tank showing it clearly right now but maybe able to take one later on.

If you could, that would be awesome. What did you do for mounting straps? Just make new ones to use the original hole?

I saved the straps from the z28 and cut out the sections in the unibody where they mounted to. I will (if the Z28 straps and tank fit properly) weld in the Z28 unibody mounting sections to the elky bed.

Otherwise I will have to look at the stock elky straps and maybe make them longer.

I tried to PM you, but could not figure out how to get the pics attached.
The hose used between the tank and filler neck is fuel hose from NAPA sold by the inch.

Have you mounted it yet? That hump kind of worries me about it hanging pretty low there. If you have if mounted would it be possible to get a pic of the side or back of the car from the ground clearance from floor to bottom of tank? Thanks.

hey man i can tell you right now that it will fit ..lol i have one under the back of my 70 chevelle . i just rebent the stock straps on the chevelle to contour to the tank...and yeah it does sit alot lower than a stock one would, but if you have the bucks to spare , i know i have seen the fabbed stainless tanks are going for around 600 bucks . but back to the stock tank, mine is supporting my 8-10lbs of boost with no problem at all. and i just have a 255 in the tanks, stock 94 camaro plastic lines and filter.you can always go with the dual pump in tank and go with a bigger feed line. got any pics so far?

lt170, do you by chance have any pics? Id just like to get some reference as how someone else did it so when I get to working on mine I will have some ideas. I am going with a dual pump intank (Lonnies Perf/Racetronix) and 8an feed and 6an return, 79# injectors, and probably Nasty fuel rails and Magnafuel boost referenced regulator.
