Default Altenator?

I know this has been done several times..and I did search but couldn't really find any information towards a carb setup..I'm building a 6.0 LQ4 based motor and will be using only the crank water pump and alternator. My question being how to hook up the factory truck alternator without having a harness. Do I have to plug anything into the plug on the alternator or will it work fine without..?

Get the pigtail connector from ebay. They are like $10. The you will need to solder a resister between one of the wires. This simulates the computer telling it ot charge. Then you wire the other wire to your battery. There is a big thread about this on here, i had it bookmarked then my broswer decided to uninstall itself so i lost all my little helpful tidbits.

You run 12 volts, switched, through a 470 ohm resistor to pin B on the alternator.

If its a 2001 or newer truck alt it needs 2 wires.

Switched 12V to terminal C, and switched 12v to 470 ohm resistor to terminal B.

Thanks guys I talked to a local alternator shop yesterday and they said that I can have it converted to a one wire set up for about $50. So I think I might be going that route..

Correct me if I am wrong, but the one wire alternators need to be spun past a certain RPM so that it can be "excited" to start charging. If you wire in the resistor you can just start the car and let it idle and the alternator will automatically start charging. Save your 50 bucks and wire in the resistor.

I'm not aware of that..if this is true what at RPM does it start charging..I've never heard of this..

yes, thats why 1 wire alt + underdrive pulleys sometimes = dead battery.

It is usually 2000-2500 rpm. For a track only car I would not worry about it. Once the alternator is "excited" it will keep charging even at idle.
