Default Header Flange

Well I am to the exhaust portion of my install of a 6.0L in a stock front clip 1966 Chevy II. I need to order a set of header flanges and I was just wondering what brand of flanges do you guys get? I see that GM offers a header flange in 1 3/4 ( part #12480130 ), but I also noticed that patriot exhaust also offers a flange kit. They only thing that I don't get about patriots is they list the flange in three sizes 1 5/8 - 1 7/8 with the same part number. Has anyone used the patriot header flange before? Just checking out what options I have before I order.

Thanks,

Jared

I have an extra GM flange I can sell you for $25 plus shipping. It is brand new in the original box. If you need any measurements off of it to compare to the patriot flanges I can get those for you too.

I searched the GM flange and came up with some measurements, I believe they are 3/8ths thick and have a primary size of 1 3/4. Does that match the measurements of the GM flange that you have 76LQ9TA?

Thanks for the fast response,
Jared

Wow those are only 5/16" thick. Thinnest I had seen before was 3/8".

Default Headers

Lowdeuce-

I'm getting ready to start the same swap, but in a 64 II. My biggest concern has been headers. I'm going to do a rack and pinion conversion to free up some space, and am hopeful that a set of headers from S&S Headers http://www.ssheaders.com/muscle.htm (#5207) might fit. I spoke to the tech guy there, and he indicated that they will several cars with R&P conversion, maybe even a stock front clip! He said that these headers really hug the block, so I've decided to order a set when I'm ready, and try them out. I was told if they are not dinged up, I can return them.

Not sure if you have done this conversion, but it may be worth a shot if you don't have to build headers.

I found a guy on theturbofoums.com to cut me out a set of 1/2" thick flanges for my turbo headers. $50 for the pair too, you cant beat that!

His screen name on there is "Yecker"

Default headers

I modified my old fender well headers, I used only 2 new tubes, all the other tube are the pieces I cut off the old flanges. I used the GM flanges they're nice. Here's a pic of my junk.

Good to hear! I'm going to be doing much the same thing with my project, I sure wouldn't complain if you felt like posting a picture that focused on the flange...

I didn't take a bunch of good pics. This headers are over 12 years old and really thin thats why I didn't grind the welds down. I recommend using new headers.

Has anyone looked into the 351W swap headers used on early mustangs, since the front clip is basically the same design as a Chevy II front end? I believe the deck height of a 351W is very similar to the deck height of an LS1. Might be another option for headers on a stock front clip.

if you use the stock clip, #2 & 4 cylinders need 90 degree tubes with 1 3/4" radius. The GTO oil pan works perfect. S & P has them cheap.

Kudos to you 63chevyll - it looks like you did a really nice job there... And that first picture you posted (that shows the thickness of the flange) is just what I was looking for - thank you! Good luck w/ the rest of the project.

Zedzag - I'd be interested in the pair you have, if I thought that shipping them to me (here in the US) wouldn't cost more than my simply buying them new... Here's a bump hoping that you get a quick sale.
