I am not sure why everyone says the canister style are all fartcans. Sure the idiot with a $50 muffler and $100 tip on his civic is rolling around sounding more like pissed off bumblebee than streetrod, but a japanese exhaust from a top company flows well, fits great and is usually very lightweight and long lasting.

I am running a 80mm all the way back (loud now on my 4 cylinder), but will be good for close 450HP without loss. Those I know that are running domestic style exhausts have alot more clearance problems than me and they don't sound that great.

What's your exhaust set up at the moment? I see you are still running the stock manifolds.
I can get custom long tubes from a few different shops but they run more the $900 for a pair so im holding off for now. Currently i have stock manifolds that dump into a custom 3in y-pipe and then into a 3in Blitz nur-spec cat back exhaust. Also i have no cats so it likes to spit some fairly good sized fire *****.

Thank you and everyone else for the complements. This was my first ever swap and i love the way it turned out. I just tried to keep it as clean looking as possible and i think it almost looks like it belongs in the car.

No dyno numbers yet as i have some more goodies i want to get before i head to a dyno to turn some numbers.

The day i picked up my drag radials i was planning on heading out to our local track but it dropped below 45deg. so unfortunately i didnt get a chance to make it to a strip before they closed for winter. Although that was probably a good thing as im still running the stock rear end (3.90) and im afraid of ripping it out on the street with the Nitto 555s let alone at the sticky track.

Edit: how does you car only weigh in at 2825 with almost the same setup?

The stock diff will probably handle an LS6 through stock manis no problem. They are pretty freaking beefy and will take lot of punishment if you don't get a lot of axle hop. Have fun.

Chris.
Ya there are a few companies out there that make the kits to do the swap.
http://www.grannysspeedshop.com/
http://hinsonsupercars.com/
and there are more...

And everything anyone has told me is that the IRS rear end in this car is really strong for what it is. Im just afraid to test out how strong on a almost 16 year old car that is hard to find parts for.

There are guys running high 9sec LSX rx7s with just an lsd upgrade which runs around $900 for a Kaaz

LS6RX7...I'm trying to come up with an alternative to the $895 headers that hinson sells for the application. Any advice?

You can get BBK mustang 5.0 headers, chop the flange off them, round out the primaries and fit them to Ls1 header flanges and they will fit the FCs..

They may fit the FDs too but I'm not sure

You can get the headers usually for like 250$ and most exhaust shops charge like 50$ to do the welding.

I was going this route until I found real long tube headers from Jags that run www.jagsthatrun.com used for 500$. They work great and will deff perform better than the mid length hinson headers.

Best way is to look at installs others have done in any car and compare where their headers 'fit'...

I don't think there is anyway around needing flanges welded up out there. Too many variables (it would be kick *** though for a shop to provide a true header back option *hint hint*) with exhaust selection....especially when you are looking at dudes looking for just a nice street car and others looking for a *****-out drag/autoX/etc racer.

Yeah i've got the 93 silver touring edition with the ox blood and black leather. only like 400 and some change of them were made. Hinson Supercars has a header back system that bolts up but the headers alone are $895. Hell thats 400-500 short of a t56. Hard for me to chew on that! Looking for anyway out of having to drop that much for those parts

LOL! yes sir... I really wanted to stick with the rotary just to stay mazda but after dropping way too much into a single turbo set up only to have the rotary loose compression on the rear rotor less then a month later made me change my mind.

Now im glad i went LSX. My only regret is not doing it sooner. The car is an absolute blast to drive! By far my favorite sports car ive owned. It out accelerates exotic cars that cost 10 times what ive got into mine and handles better then my S2000.
