Cheapest wat to get a LS1 Ok, Where is the best place to find a engine cheap? I want to do a LS1 Miata swap but it wont happen if I have to spend $3500 on a engine, computer, harness and trans. Did you get yours local or on the net? What should I spend or what did you pay? My dream is going 
if I can't get it in budget.

The Iron block is not in my plans. I know I am adding weight but I don't want it to get out of hand. My goal is power to weight ratio. I would like to keep the car around 2500LB.
I have found a long block for $300 with some of the sensors and the fueling. But I don't think it has the accessories or the harness. It also has a bent push rod. It may be more trouble than it is worth.

Engine: $500 - $2000
Computer: $100-150
Harness: $50 - $300 (for stock)
Trans: $750 - $1500
A longblock for $300 is a deal, I would probably myself pick it up just for spare parts. The heads alone are worth $200 - 300.

Re: Cheapest wat to get a LS1 $3500 is what you are going to spend, no matter how you look at it. I would just pick it all up from the same person/car. There is a guy local to me right now with and LS1/T56 for $3500 as we speak.

Re: Cheapest wat to get a LS1 Got my whole setup for 2500, (engine, trans, and PCM) from a salvage yard going by the name of Latino Salvage on the North side of Houston. I saw the smashed Z28 it came out of, so as far as I know my truck bed was in no danger of melting 
. The guy thought it was an LT1 by the way.

i got mine local, the cheapest way is midnight auto, just make sure you reinforce the bed of the truck you pick it up with so it doesnt melt through
