K-member with motor mounts, steering rack is diferent, steering shaft, you will need 98-02 accessories, alt water pump etc. starter, throttle cable, power steering pump and lines, tranny will have to be addresed, gauges, wiring will be an issue and you will have to go to a return style fuel rail setup with regulator. That will get you started, from there most everything will have to be 98-02 LS1 f body stuff. It will nickel and dime you!

Well, we sent the harness from an 02 SS to speartech, the car already has a cell, so the fuel sys. should be square--just need a regulator. We also have a TH350 sourced, so no wiring issues there.
I didn't realize that we needed a new starter though. Duane, it looks like we need to hit up the junkyard.

I thought I could use LT1 power steering components, (rack,steering shaft) and it did not work. The mounts holes do not line up on the rack, and the angle and location of the shaft input is different. I pulled my hair out on that one. The shaft fit much better on the LS1 style as well. For some reason the 6.0L starters are more expensive than the 5.3L starters. I had a 5.3L one on there first, it made noise but did seem to work. But I did upgrade to the 6.0L version. It was well worth spending the money on the TCI flexplate. It will bolt right up to the TH350 with no issues. I also used the Madman dipstick for the TH400, had to modify it slightly and paint it, but otherwise saved a lot of work.

Thanks for the info. If we were to buy a tubular K member, do you think we could fab up mounts to adapt the LT rack on the K member? I haven't looked at them side by side to see.

I have a PA tubular LS1 k-member. I went to install the LT1 rack, The 2 bolts were off a little, so I figured they were just welded wrong. So I beat them with a hammer and hogged out the holes. Got it to bolt in there, then found out the power steering lines did not match up, and the angle that the steering shaft comes in to the rack is way different. Believe me, at that point if I could have made the LT1 rack work, I would have. It was way to different. Picked up a rack from advanced, it dropped in with zero issues, other than bending the tabs back to the proper location! Sent the LT1 rack back as the core Just one of those unexpected things that popped up as the motor and tranny were bolted up to the k-member ready to be dropped back in. The LS1 steering shaft was much slimmer, leaving plenty of room for the headers.

I have full ls1 k memeber with mounts rack and brakes check my for sale. I was in the process of doing the same thing but got a full ls1 car for cheap so I have a spare complete k. If you are interested pm me.

What hood and air intake are you going to use? I have an LS1 Camaro SS radiator support/ airbox base and lid. I am getting ready to put a bunch of stuff on ebay, but will give you dibs.

you might search and question the many who have done or thought about doing this swap..
Most of the time, many will just recommend selling the LT1 or V6 car and go buy a LS1.. it is cheaper in the long run and everything will work...!

I have a 6.0 - Its the same as an LS1 , you just have to use the ls1 accessories, as stated above. That and the Intake manifold wont clear, so get one from an LS6/1 as well. OTher than that - treat it like any searchable ls1 swap.

I agree.. don't get me worry, I am a car nut as much as anyone here. Just look at my current collection of money pits.. But it does comes down to the $$$ !..
The point that I am making.. would be way more cost effective to just buy a LS1 F-Body and a lot quicker.

one reason for the swap is the denali i bought for 2000.00 and will have sold about 3000.00 in parts by next week so the motor payed for its self in also sold the lt1 last week and the car alreay has almost ever thing but i did try that route first no one was buying at the time and in alaska there is not alot of ls1 cars for sale

I think at first I'm just gonna load a SD tune in it with a fabbed air intake until more funds come around. We are trying to do this as budget as possible. Right now it has the LT1 SS hood, so we have plenty of hood clearance. This thing should be a screamer though
