Default solstice seem like a nice place to live

I just began my ls1 build, bought a shortblock from a buddy, and as part of my planning process i am trying to decide where the engine shall eventually wind up. It will most likely be an everyday driver, that i would love to maybe autox, going fast in a straight line is fun too. I feel that the f-body is too heavy and would like something with a fully independent suspension. Does anyone know if the ls would fit in the solstice, any suspension info on the solstice, or any other ideas for future chasis. At this point i am very open to ideas and very uneducated please help with both

Look up a Mallett racing. They already put a ls1-ls7 with a turbos in them. Pretty sweet set ups they have to. Big brkes and suspension upgrades aswell. Or Google V8 solsitce and find Mallet racing.

Car craft or hot-rod did a write up on how to do it, it wasn't too hard (but they had help from GM)

I seen a couple Mallet Solstice's in person. The cars are awesome! They look like a factory option.

put the motor in a VW bug. Mount it in the front and make it RWD. Never seen it done.

I'm sure there are others, but those are all fairly cheap and readily available.

read a million page thread on the 240 swap from 2005 and i didn't seem to have much info, the an older rx7 seems real nice, and i hadn't though of the miata threw the solstice out there b/c i thought it may be easier to stick with a gm. . . is it or does it not matter

The wiring harness "might" be a little easier to adapt to the solstice. I'm not basing that on fact, because I really don't know. Other than that and the newer car, I don't see anything that would make the solstice swap any easier then the others. But you do get a lot newer car with the solstice.

I do know that the solstice has a pretty good suspension on it from the factory and is actually doing well at autocrosses.

What about putting one into a rx8 or 350z?

If you're going to the track, start with a car that handles and has a huge aftermarket pot to pick parts from. My vote (albeit bias) is the Porsche 944. Sub 3000 lb weight, 50/50 weight even with the LS, and superb handling. This is only one of MANY examples. There are kits to make it "drop in". Check out http://www.porschehybrids.com/php/

I would love to put it in a 944. I had one a couple years ago (expensive to keep running) my conccern with that was finding the right tranny, does the t56 fit or did porsche ever offer a trans strong enough to take a 450hp beatin (as if a stock t56 is). the best thing about the 944 is around here i can get one cheap

I have seen a VW SBC swap in front. I did not like the looks of it at all. The conversion forced the driver seat to be moved to the rear so far that you looked out the rear side window. Then there is the huge bump in the middle of the front bulk head that you cant miss, it's like a ford van. The inside of a VW bug is VERY narrow, just not much room to put a SBC and tranny between the driver and passenger.

Guys are using the LSD turbo trans, and as long as you're not doing burnouts all day, it holds up fine. One very nice thing porsche does, is trans shifting. I only wish my Z06 shifted as well.

If you do decide to do it.. start with a Turbo car. All the good stuff already there. Guys on the forum will tell you all the "ins/outs" of setting up for it.

Heck, I see them in motorycycles here all the time. Should fit in a Bug easy.
