My second F body (but the first one I was able to drive) was an 87 GTA. I loved that thing.

I love 3rd Gen's esp. GTA's! My buddy has a sweet '87 IROC, just blew the stock 305. I tried to push for a Gen III swap, but he went for a ZZ4 and Edelbrock high flow TPI stuff. Its rad but he missed out

Thats what I said! We all know the TPI intake doesn't flow very well over 4500 RPM. I kept telling him about LS1's and Gen III but he is close-minded and wanted a traditional small block. he said it was too much effort to do the wiring. I don't get why that mattered cuz he had a shop do all the work for him anyways

I voted for you to just restore it. As a GTA with a 5.7L is not so common so why alter it with a LSX. You can get some serious performance out of a 5.7L TPI regardless of what anyone states.

Just search out TPI Specialities http://www.tpis.com as they advise you on how to can get power out of your tired 5.7L. You are going to spend money might as well use it on keeping a low production car as it was and improve upon it. I bet you that will platform freshened up will surprise plenty of those fourth gen LSX fanatics.

If anyone wants to put a LSX in a third gen make it one that is not a low production car.

Ok, well I agree with you there. You could just as easily swap it into a beater V6 firebird and add all the cool GTA stuff. But its not going to be worth much more in stock form than in tastefully modified form.

Swap it! I say cutting up an original GTA makes all of the others more valuble! By the way, do you need a tubular K member that has LS1 motor mounts on it already? i know where there is one. I have it for sale in the lsx parts. G

So it was a bad idea to swap an LSx into my '91 with production down around 500?

Just giving you a hard time.

I'd always say LSx it. I see no point in owning a car you can't enjoy. And a 3rdgen GTA isn't one of those cars that you can just enjoy looking at. It has to be driven.

Bottom line, power out of a TPI means FI or ditching the TPI and going some other form of induction; HSR, miniram, superram, custom port injection, FAST injection, etc.
