Well, I have considered what everyone here has told me and I have decided to use a LS1 383ci. Here's what the engine will consist of: FAST intake, ported 6.0L heads, Compstar crank & Rods, TREX cam, Cadillac lifters ex... What worry's me right now is the conversion Kit availability.

Whatever you decide, we're here to help, as mentioned previously. Further, my major concern was when you mentioned spray. Turbotacoma is driving 450 WHP on 225's; so, why not a 427 on 275's? Anyway, a 383 isn't a bad choice either. No doubt you can get big power out of it.

Yah, I saw the post from ls1 miata regarding the kit. Although, there's another manufacturer of LSX Miata kits if I remember correctly. Will look into it & let you know.

Flyin' Miata. I'd post a link, but, it's not allowed to post non-sponsor links. Just go to their site & search V8 conversion kits. Am thinking there's one more manufacturer. Will post again if I find it.

Where did I see you post 16x7's & 225's? My mistake on the comment.

Edit: It was in your m.net signature; 16x7 Rota's. That's where the 16x7's comment came from & then (assumed, ) that you were also running 225's, as a minimum 16x8 is recommended for 245's. Again, my mistake & wasn't trying to speak on your behalf, appologies.

LSX-PWR: if you want a fun car that doesn't simply put the tires up in smoke and pitch it sideways when you tip into the loud pedal.... I would look for one that has a longer wheel base and a vehicle that can accomodate a lot more tire. Miata requires a custom rear end solution and with the power you are talking about I wouldn't want anything less than a 31 spline Cobra 8.8" setup... not the wimpy Tbird 28 spline. With traction you will waste the weaker version sooner vs. later.

Look into an '86-91 RX-7 (FC model) or a '93-95 RX-7 (FD) version. Body kits are available to stuff 315/18's up front... and 345/30/18's out back!!! A 400rwhp LS1 conversion can put 275's up in smoke easily. There are quality bolt in kits available to install a Cobra 8.8" IRS rear end setup (allowing any gear ratio choice) into either model. There are also kits to install a solid 8.8" rear end if wheelies are your thing....

The other thing is that long tube headers for the Miata are compromised due to the squishy engine bay. There are headers already made for the LSx/RX-7 conversion making 550rwhp+ n/a (LS7). Fastest one running these headers has been 143mph in the 1/4 (with a 100hp shot of nitrous).

You can strip an RX-7 down to about 2450lbs with a T56. With a lighter trans and some carbon fiber you can trim it down a couple more hundred pounds. They have a .29cd aero rating... meaning they are very very slippery. 600rwhp in a lightweight RX-7 and good 60' times should put it in the mid to low 9's. You can achieve that with a stock 5.3 truck motor $750 (running Fbody oil pan/pickup/windage tray), used Z06 cam ($100), upgraded valve springs/keepers ($200), larger injectors $400, tuning of the stock PCM $500, $700 PowerMaster T70 turbo, and custom turbo hotside setup based upon $50 stock exhaust manifolds (C6 Vette or 5.3/6.0 truck). Put a powerglide behind it and an 8.8" Cobra rear with 3.08 gears and let it rip. Hello 145mph+ potential. Somehow you pop the stock 5.3 motor... pressure wash the engine bay, then chuck it and throw in another $750 used one.

Sounds a liittle more appealing then a $15K+ used high strung C5-R motor with oversized ports that don't make power until 4K rpm

Please explain to me how my Miata's long tube headers have been compromised. I must have mist it while building the car.

I wouldn't mind an RX7 but to fined one for a reasonable price? I was also considering converting my 350z but I will let some else try that first. Not to sound like a ricer but I am kind of proud of my 350z. I beat a stock 02 TA & a stock 06 GT mustang. Back to the Miata I like the idea of the Miata because well lets face it who expects a miata to kick the sh_t out of a Y or F-body car or even a mustang. Just the sheer look of the guys face when he or she gets spanked is priceless.
gnx7 I agree with the rear end, I would need to up grade to a setup like the one you mentioned above.
LS1-450, whenever you have a chance let me know about the other manufacturer. Thanks.

if u have the cash for the C5R engine i dont think the price of the rx7 body should be you main concern
the FC body can be had for cheaper or equal price of the miata body, while the FD body runs ~5000+
the FC swap kit is readily available and cheaper compare to the FD kit, while there is a 2 months wait time for the FD kit
rx7s got a relatively stronger rear end compare to the miata, but u are playing with ur luck anyways once u go over 400rwhp, cobra rear is one of the most popular options with big power.

there are more than enuf rx7 swaps running around / even on this and other forums

i'd love to have a lsx miata, good luck

Can't find 'em. There's a very good chance that they too have gone under. Have you thought about buying an LSX Miata already converted & then modifying the engine, trans, clutch to your liking? May have to play w/ the sub-frame bracing, brakes, & suspension as well, but, you'd be way ahead of the game for less money & headaches. I know that there was a "racing concepts" kit built Miata from around Pittsburgh on e-bay a couple of months ago & others show up now & again. Craig's list is another good place to look. If you were able to find a kit built car, you'd have a good idea as to the quality of parts used. The workmanship of the build itself may be off, but, that can be easily changed. Perhaps this is another solution. Further, there's a good chance of finding one w/ the 8.8 already installed since that's what most of us used to begin with.

I know this is a little of subject but how many of you guy's would like to see a LSX in a Viper? The reason I ask is because my cousin in Dallas is going to sell his 98 Viper GTS and being family and all he said he would let me have it for $28,000 with little over 42,000 miles on it and a bunch of mods. I've always wanted a Viper but at the end I always ended up with a Corvette or a F-body because of the engine. I talked to my cousin about this and he said why would I disgrace the Viper in this way. I told him I can have the best of both worlds, which is in my case its the looks and the LSX. What do you all think? Hell yes or What the hell are think lay off the pipe.

Iron LSx race block turned into a 427ci with 6 bolt heads and then twin T-76 turbos with a TH400 would be nice. Lots of room under the Viper hood.

You change your mind more than most people change their underwear (daily).

I love crazy swaps as much as the next guy, but dayum. Seems like you have a pretty stout budget to work with. The miata is a great car, I just don't think it is up to the kind of powerlevel you want to throw at it,....and swapping the viper? Perhaps if it had a nuked engine.
The RX7 (FD & FC) are good suggestions.....I have also heard of guys LSx swapping (91?-96?) 300zx's.....
Only advice i can offer is....build the nasty 427 motor....and buy the "Factory Five Racing GTM"...... build that.....I will envy you, forever!!!

Anybody who knows me can tell you that. Just ask Nemss. I am like a garage or should I say performance store to some of the locals because I change my mine to much and keep buying parts and not use them. So they come to me and purchase what they need. That's the reason why I have the LS3, C5R, 383 parts, even a carb setup for L92 with msd box and I just sold a 408 long block with ported L92 heads plus other parts.

I agree that GTM from Factory Five Racing is sweet. Someday you never know.
