Default C5R 427 91 Miata build up

Well let me tell you a little about my build. I have a 1991 Miata that I am going to put a 427 C5R engine with a Beck sheetmetal intake, Accufab 105mm tb, TNT Nitrous Direct Port injection, C5R heads flow little over 400cfm, Jesel rocker arms, titanium intake valves and retainers ex..... Its pretty much going to be a replica from SAM C5R engine mines the compression. Mine is going to be more like 11:5:1. I am not going to say what kind of power its going to make in order to not make an *** out of myself. Whatever the power the engine should make its going to get a healthy 300 shot of nitrous on top. Call it a cherry. I will be using a progressive system and what not. I'll be using a D&D T56 with a viper shaft conversion and such. As for the rest of the car I will gladly take you alls advise. The reason I was motivated to build this car is credited to LS1-Miata, LS1-450 to name a few. Here are some pics of the top end of the motor. Let me know what you guys think so far?

Damn, those ports are huge. I can't wait to see the burn out video. Also, with parts like that sitting on the table, either you aren't married or you have a very understanding wife.

Very understanding wife. As for the burn out, I hope that's not the only thing it does. I am not very familiar with the IRS and the parts that are going on this car. I was looking at LS1-Miata's set up and it looks pretty promising.

I believe there's already a kit out there. Just like the one that LS1-Miata is using.

Have you thought about putting that engine in an RX7 or 240sx? I think you'd end up with a better overall package becayse of the Miatas short wheelbase.

Glad to see that you started your thread. Is this a track only car? Regardless, you may want to consider adding the nitrous after getting her set up on motor first. I'd also have to agree w/Skele4door that there are far better platforms for the kind of power you will make. However, it's your project & we're here to help. So, let's talk rear end. Best bet is a Ford 9", but, I don't see how it will fit without major mods.. So, that leaves the Ford 8.8. As mentioned in the other thread, a 31 spline carrier & differential are a must for your set up. Also, chrome moly half shafts from carrier to hub. Maybe the kit builder can make you a cutom set. Personally, I'd also convert the hubs to a 5 lug in order to get @ least a 10" rear wheel mounted. Plan to flare the rear fender wells. Your differential mount is gonna need to be stout. Plan to add metal the the kit mount. People who know & that have built high powered Miata's are gonna tell you that you are out of your mind to try & put that kind of power into a Miata. Further, that it is not driveable power. I would be one of them. A 427 without the spray is one thing, adding the spray is not adviseable. Like I said, we're here to help. It's just best for you to decide on the spray after you have tuned the suspension & have had some wheel time on motor only.

I have and I was also considering converting my Nissan 350z. I'll let somebody else tackle that first and then I'll see what I can do. I like the idea of a little car that is consider to be a girls car or whatever; whip the **** of out of a Vette, camaro, TA, or GTO. My kind of sleeper. If I must I will tub the car.

NO KIDDING!! Either that, or help your "very understanding wife" out by getting LOTS of life insurance...
If completed, that car would have a STUPID power-to-weight ratio, & a slightly longer wheelbase could help a lot...

Good luck.

This is going to be my street/ stripe car. I know how that sounds with my type of equipment but I am keeping the compression 11:5:1 in order be able to drive it on 93 octane. As for the 300 shot of nitrous or whatever it turns out to be, its going to be applied evenly with a Nitrous progressive system from NOS. The car will be driven mostly NA but I like the idea if I need a little extra I have it on tap. I am going to talk to Eric at HKE about specking out a camshaft for my application. My concern right now is the headers. I would like to go with a step LT header from other a 1 3/4-1 7/8 or a 1 7/8-2in. I can talk to the boys at Pro Turbo System to see if they can fab me up a set. With that said if you all know of anybody who builds or can build a set like these please let me know. Thanks.

Just Curious how you plan to keep the tires planted? I own turbo miata making 212whp 189wtq on 9lbs. I have trouble keeping the tires planted, I cant imagine how crazy your car is going to be. If you roll and pull your rear fenders you can stick a 275/30-15 hoosier on a 15x9 with a +25 offset. Thats about as big as you can get and I doubt that it will be enough.

Stoverz28, that's cool you found the link but what would be the point in posting pics of a the car with out the engine. I still don't have the motor together. I have a few k to go in it. Originally I was going to put this engine in a 94z but where would the fun be in that. To many people been there and done that. I know the 94z would be a better platform but it would only be a strip car and that's what I don't want right now. The car is completely gutted and would only serve one purpose. I was inspired by LS1-miata and LS1-450 with their builds and that's why I want to join the club but with a twist. Worse comes to worse I can always put a ls2 in its place.
Mike @ CMS I am not sure how I would go by pulling this of, but I am sure if there's a will there's a way just like anything else in life. But that's why I am here on LS1 Tech because there are a bunch of LS1 "GURU'S" here and I would like to think I can get help here. Thanks for the info on rolling and pulling the fenders.

If you can get it to hook up I am sure it will be a 7 sec. car.

That's why I like the idea of a nitrous progressive system. It's not just a big shot of the line, but a window from 0-10sec. There's more to it but you get my point.
